I fail to see why DD would have to declare it.
She was NOT involved in an accident or incident
She has not made a claim

Your wife technically should declare it though, whether she does or not is a different story

    Thats how I see it

She hasnt been involved in an accident but as the policyholder she has had a claim made against her policy.

    No she hasn't!

  • She hasnt been involved in an accident but as the policyholder she has had a claim made against her policy.

What you meant to say is a driver named on DDs policy has had an accident.
  • The question is usually worded "Have you or any of the named drivers been involved in any incident or claim within the last x years"

If that's the case, and mum isn't now named on DDs (what does that even mean?) policy then there is no need for her to declare it.

I know insurers would love to have the information (oooh you fell of your pushbike when you were 8, that makes you a bad risk kerching! How many times did you fall over playing kiss chase kerching!) but there are limits. It all depends how the question is worded.

Insurers don't ask about named drivers claiming on your policy. For example on Compare the Market they ask "Have you had any motor accidents, claims or losses in the past 5 years, no matter who was at fault or if a claim was made? " So they specifically ask whether the policyholder has had any claims therefore if DD goes ahead and gets a policy on her own, she DOES NOT have to declare.
