Hi.
I know that as of the 1 October 2014 all cars sold and bought now don't have tax. But how do you tax the car as it takes too long for the vo5 logbook to come through to you in the post. There for without the reference number shown on the logbook how can one tax the car. As it all done online now. This new system has messed with me as I don't know where to start or what to do now.

When you buy the car, you should get the small (green?) part of the v5 (that you retain to prove you're the new keeper until the full V5 arrives). This part has the V5 reference with an additional check digit, so when you tax, online or elsewhere, the car will become taxed in your name.0

You use the reference from the new keeper part of the V5c

You can still go to a Post Office and tax the car with the V5 new keeper part..0 -

This new system has messed with me.
I fail to see how the new system is messing with you.
The new system makes no difference as to how to tax a car that is bought untaxed.
it's exactly the same as before the 1st October last year - you use the new-keeper part that you get from the seller/former keeper.
It's correctly called the V5C section 2.
The chief difference (apart from the obvious no transfer of VED to the new keeper) is that there are several more options than there used to be.
It's NOT all done on-line. You still have the option of the Post Office or the telephone.
If you don't have the V5C Section 2 then you do have a problem.0 -

Then they can't unless the driver has the correct insurance.0 -

What has that got to do with it?0 -
As above whats the insurance got to do with it? Yes they are covered for customers doing test drivers. But where previously they only took in cars that were taxed and ready to roll. Now all those vehicles are untaxed.
Its just the tax issue now. Not every trader i have dealt with will have trade plates, Which covers the tax.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
