LPG question....

Ive been driving my lpg converted car for over 10 years, mainly refueling at the same petrol station when the 50 litre tank has emptied, normally getting +/- 2 or 3 litres depending on the air pressure....

This morning when i refuelled from empty i noticed they had new pumps from the last time, and they didnt cut off until nearly 70 litres had gone in!

Trading standards say they will be having a word with the garage but havent had any similar reports and they dont have the specialist equipment to test lpg pumps!

Obviously i shall be keeping an eye on my mileage to see how it compares with my normal 260 miles....
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Pressure issue. When you say 50 L tank is that the fill size or the actual size?

Depends where you buy them from. But as you normally only fill them to 80% to allow for expansion, some places list a 70L tank as 50L because thats what you can actually fill it to without going over ther 80%.

  • Funny old things, sometimes mine cuts off with a sudden stop, other times it slows up gradually then shuts, once or twice it didn't seem stop at all but got slower and like you i ended up putting more in than was usual.

As you say, all you can do is see if you get a few more miles before needing to refill next time.

What was the temperature like when you filled up?

If it was near freezing i would naturally expect that you would get more in - but an increase of 20 litres is much more than I would expect.

I have the same kind of thing when filling Calor Gas tanks.

It was cold! Maybe 3 or 4 degrees but not bitter....and certainly not freezing! No snow here

Just out of interested for a non LPG user. Has the price come down? Petrol has dropped about 30p per litre, but the station selling LPG near us, the price has not moved....
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Paid 49ppl yesterday (two suppliers in Leicester presumably fighting it out), but locally its 60.9 @ Morrisons, less the 'match and more' bonus, probably worth 2ppl.
As petrol it varies around the country, more competiton (more savvy buyers?) usually means better prices.
