Transit fuel injectors
Hi
Wonder if anyone can help me here.
I was driving my transit 2.4 56 plate t350 when the exhaust started to smoke then power going. Pulled up immediately popped the bonnet and oil going everywhere. Taken it to the garage and they have tested the fuel injectors and say all four are knackered. Engine still turns over. Been quoted £200 plus vat for each injector and 40 plus vat to fit so £1008
Anyone know if this sounds right? Both cost and diagnosed Problem?
The injectors are benso injectors
I really haven't a clue as I put pink muck on walls for a living. Lol
Any help much appreciated
Also if I don't get the injectors from this garage they already will charge me £35 plus vat for checking each injector ( no mechanic but sounds a lot of money to me) if I buy the injectors from them I wont have to pay this.
Hope this makes since
Thanks
P

It may sound more costly, but you really need to move the van to someone who knows what they are talking about: At least a diesel tech. You don't ever have real cases of a van driving along and then suddenly all four injectors breaking down. It is feasible if there was dirt in the fuel or a swarf in the lines, but then you are looking at a system flush as well as a very suspect diesel pump too.0

When you say you lifted the bonnet and there was oil everywhere, did you mean diesel?
The garage's advise seems a bit questionable.
Fuel injectors can be reconditioned a lot of the time rather than replaced. I'd ask them why they want to replace them, rather than have them reconditioned as it's a fair bit cheaper that way.
I'm a bit skeptical that 4 fuel injectors would fail suddenly like that as well. 1 or 2 perhaps, but not usually 4 unless there's a fault with the diesel injector pump or the fuel was contaminated. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Hi
Thanks for replays
The garage is Malvern diesel which I've heard of several are very reputable
My thoughts exactly why all four gone together
And yes definitely oil not diesel0 -
broken engine then i would have thought.
Have a look here and ask question

No it doesn't sound right. The injectors are not £200 each. You can get reputably reconditioned ones for a bit less.
And what have the injectors got to do with oil all over the engine?
Maybe a turbo issue. Even something simple like a split turbo pipe can spray a bit of oil over the engine and lose power.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Its an easy profit for garages, easy as a spakplug to fit with huge mark up on parts and £40 each ? to fit or £40 for the hours labour it really is.
All 4 failed at once ? Never heard that before.
How do you know they are not just telling everyone the same tale and swapping injectors with the last lot.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Ask them how injectors failing caused there to be oil everywhere on the engine. All your base are belong to us.0

It's really not. Injectors have a nasty habit of seizing into their seats and become an absolute nightmare to get out. So much so that there are companies who can send a guy round with a special puller to get the B******* out for you. Although I'd expect a diesel garage to have one.
OP £1000 doesn't sound far off the correct price for 4 injectors plus fitting (plus their time so far).0 -

Hi retro
Garage is closed now. Sorry I really am thick when it comes to engines - is the oil not related then at all then?0 -
Done right they would only need one set, swap the next, it's the injectors gov, code them in and you have 4 to do it again.
How all 4 would go at once I am baffled ?I do Contracts, all day every day.0
