Bought faulty car, garage tried twice now to repair it and still faulty
What can I do? The garage is 10 miles away. The trader seems to be fully aware of his responsibilities - he has attempted to repair the car on both occasions and the second time he gave me a courtesy car. However, it still isn't right, and the 22 mile round trip is costing me in time and petrol and I don't want the hassle…

Crash in council owened car park
Hi looking for some advice. This morning I parked in a council owned multi storey car park. It was one those that has a circular rising ramp. On approaching the last bend two pedestriansappeared out of nowhere walking down the ramp, I swerved to avoid them crashingmy near side into the wall. My brand newcar has sustained…

Selling a car - any tips?
I've recently bought a new(er) car and the dealer offered me £200 trade in for my old one, but said I could probably get £400 if I sold privately. I didn't go for the trade-in, and I've looked online at various sites and seen the same make, model and age but with much higher mileage on sale for £750-£995! Any tips for…

New Cars - Consumer rights?
Hi all, Looking for a little advice if anyone is in the know of these things if possible.. I purchased a new car from a dealership last July (brand new!) and after 6,000 miles (February this year) it broke down and needed to be recovered. They told me it needed a new engine. Okay, I let that one go.. It happens! Today, now…

I crashed my car for the first time. Just checking I've done everything right so far
So, I'm a 22 year old male with five years clean full driving license. This is my first ever crash.. Today, while driving down a B road, I got momentarily distracted and unfortunately ploughed into the back of the car in front, who had stopped to turn into a side road. Damage to my car seems severe. Damage to his car…

Are older, bigger nengined cars going to be more valuable soon?
With us being able to pay DD for VED from October, I wonder how many people will now be thinking of getting a car with a bigger engine/higher co2? One of my neighbours has already said that he can now buy the car he's always wanted, as its always been the £300 VED ontop of the car price/insurance thats put him off.…

Failed MOT
My Ford Fiesta T reg has failed it's MOT due to the sills. Mechanic has quoted £550 to replace them, am I being ripped off? Had them done about 3 years ago but this guy says it was a botched job. He was quite pushy and tried to get me to leave car with him saying work would take 4 days! I paid for failed mot £53 and took…

Bought a car from a dealership, now problems...
About 3 weeks ago I bought a used car from a relatively high-end brand's dealership - it came with a one year warranty re any problems. This was from a Dealership about 100 miles away from me, but I have a local dealership that I dropped the car off to this morning. The problem? Juddering in 1/2nd gear. Local dealer's…

For total cost of motoring, what do people think is the best age to buy a car?
For total cost of motoring, what do people think is the best age to buy a car? Personally I'd say buying brand new and selling after three years is the most expensive motoring you can do, and buying 15 year old cars and running them into the ground is the cheapest motoring. But what about in between? There must be a…

pcm parking company
I'm in need of a bit of advice really. In jan 2014 I received a ticket from pcm uk for parking in a disabled bay without displaying a badge.! I was actually travelling with my father (who is a valid blue badge holder). I was parked on what i believe to be private land at the fort shopping park, birmingham. We both forgot…

A funny thing happened........
Oil change, and for once I didn't have a new sump washer. It's a flat "copper" washer, not a crush washer. So, I thought, I'll re-anneal the old one. So, get the Rothenberger out, on propane, not mapp, started to get it warm. It melted into a puddle. So not copper. Quick visit to the dealers to buy a new one. Lesson learnt…

Canelling order
I recently ordered a wing mirror from my local garage who ordered it from a supplier. Within the hour I discovered that I could get the same thing elsewhere for half the price and immediately contacted the garage to ask if I could cancel. They said that I can't because they are not allowed to make returns to their…

Jump start leads and/or air compressor? Advice needed please:-)
Car has sulked since Sunday[for no me-blame reason that I can determine] and I have no-one to help with jump start. I have noticed over some months that the locks can go on and off all by them selves, even when I'm not in the car. I lock and unlock it manually anyway - always have done as the automatic things have never…

Young driver's insurance.
Just require some tips/advice regarding getting the best car insurance deal for my recently passed, 18yr old son who is a student. I've read items on MSE and have run a few hypothetical quotes through Confused, Go Compare etc, as he hasn't purchased a car as yet, and have been quoted around £3000 mark - scandalous! On MSE…

Buying a brand new Mini
Hi, I'm thinking about buying the new model mini for my wife. We currently have a 11 plate ford C-Max Grand and would like to trade this in against the new mini. I presume it would be best to sell the car myself and then pay for the car cash. If i was to sell my car what sort of discount should i push for and does it make…

worried sick about speeding fine situation
I received notice of speeding fine and 3 points, I was driving 48mph in 40 zone. Whilst filling in details I realised photocard licence had expired! I went into a panic wondering if I would be in big trouble for driving with expired licence so quickly sent off for a new one. Perhaps that was a mistake, as its not gonna…
