Bought a car from a dealership, now problems...
About 3 weeks ago I bought a used car from a relatively high-end brand's dealership - it came with a one year warranty re any problems.
This was from a Dealership about 100 miles away from me, but I have a local dealership that I dropped the car off to this morning.
The problem? Juddering in 1/2nd gear.
Local dealer's senior tech reckons it's a worn clutch/flywheel.
Local dealer saying that they need to remove the gearbox and ascertain if the failure is a worn clutch or defective flywheel, and until then the warranty won't cover the work till they know the problem's covered by warranty.
Cost to inspect the gearbox is £500+ which I obviously won't pay since this problem's been there since I bought the car.
Local dealer needs an ok from the dealership who sold me the car to carry on with the work, which I'm waiting for now.
I don't want to mention any specifics because this situation is still in the middle of playing out
How are my rights here? I don't want to get stuck between two dealerships, but don't want to get Corporate involved before I need to...

I personally would have gone back to the supplying dealer to have the problems rectified
you have just bought the car and it has problems so you should not have to pay anything to rectify them
I had a similar situation a few years ago and was given the run around by the salesman and the service manager so i contacted the dealer principal and he dealt with it very efficiently
the supplying dealer came down to collect the car and they left me a courtesy car for the five days when my car was away once repairs were completed they delivered my car back to me all sorted
I think going to a loacl dealer in this case may cause you problems0 -
Why are they wanting £500 to inspect the gearbox if they think it's the clutch?0
-
I had a gearbox problem last year with a used car I'd bought from the dealer just 4 weeks before.
I drove it back to the dealer and they fixed it FOC
They have a legal obligation apparentlyto fix such a fault within first 6 months of sale
Buying from an individual does not give you the same cover0 -
Not a BMW by any chance?0

Thanks all. Intrigued by more opinions!
When I said 'local dealer' I meant the branded dealer that was closest to me, as opposed to the one where I bought my car.
Still waiting on the supplying dealership to get back to me, thanks to this thread I'm ready to ramp it up to Service Manager then then DP if I need to!0 -
At 3 weeks old (well 3 weeks old to you) then I'd be placing this firmly on the lap of supplying dealer/salesman to sort out. If phone calls aren't doing anything then a quick email copied into DP should give it a kick.
If it was 'Approved Used' or similar does it have a 30 day refund option - if I were you I'd be looking to invoke this if you're not getting the responses you're looking for0 -
See the problem will come from the fact that though they may sell the same brand of cars, they may well be two very separate companies. So getting the two to work in tandem will be far more complicated than just using the original dealership.0

You say the problem's been there "since you bought the car". Was it noticeable on the test drive?0

I have in that past been to a different Toyota dealer who did a warranty repair on a car bought from another dealer. Think they were more than happy as all paid for by Toyota UK (or whatever). Not sure if still the same though.0

I hope it doesn't go as far as a refund, but let's see how it plays out. It's the supplying dealership's problem, but I can't see why I need to make a 200 mile round trip to get it sorted.See the problem will come from the fact that though they may sell the same brand of cars, they may well be two very separate companies. Yeah, I've worked that out but when buying the car (and when looking for a car) at both of these two exact branches I made sure that I could get warranty work carried out at any *** dealership in the country...
Surely, that's not my problem as I'm a customer of ***, rather than a customer of *** in ***.You say the problem's been there "since you bought the car". Was it noticeable on the test drive?
Not at all, and not mentioned by the salesman.0
