Charging car battery by leaving running idle
Just wondering how long you guys would recommend leaving the engine running to charge a battery that has run flat? Bearing in mind I cant take it for a long hard drive to charge it as it's SORNed. Need to jump it, then leave it running to build up enough charge to fire up when it's collected for an MOT next week

Changing Brake Discs - T40 Torx Bolts Stuck... Grrr....
Okay, lets start at the start. 2003 Car, which has T40 torx bolts holding the disc to the hub. Simple to remove you think, however on one side, one bolt came out and the other just was made of cheese and began to slip. No matter what I used on it (notched it to make a screwdriver slot, then a impact driver) and it still…

How often do you Valet your car? (from a car wash group £)
Them groups of car washers, who vacuum your car inside, and wash it outside, and also wax it... How often do you do this to your car? (how frequent, after how many weeks space) and what price do they charge you ? I mean the polish guys who do it for about £10 -£12, where you can watch it while it happens.

Service performed but now more work......
Hi all, My car is now 2 years old and went in for it's 2nd/major service (Hyundai i10, 12 reg). As usual great service and attention given by the main dealer. However they told me that they now want the car to come back in to have a leak on the gearbox seal investigated, having asked why didn't do it now - at the same time…

Decent Caravan for approx £2000?
Hi everyone! Not sure if this is in the right place but feel free to move if somewhere more suitable. As the title says, I would like a 4 berth caravan and am aiming to save approximately £2000 over the next year for one. Is it possible to get a decent one for this price or am I being unrealistic? I realise it wouldn't be…

Alloy Wheel Refurb
Hello I have recently bought a new car and the 18 inch alloy wheels were pristine on arrival. I have had a few scrapes with the kerb and now the scratches (minor) are annoying me. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal in London to get these repaired? Cheers

Battery/Alternator question
My car broke down the other day. Recovery said the battery was on its last legs and it appeared the alternator wasn't charging it also. I bought a new battery (£80! - its a TD5) and within a day it had drained again, so it looks like I need a new alternator too. I have bought one and am waiting for it to come (another…

Apcoa fine
I have received a fine from Apcoa at Birmingham Airport. When picking someone up I couldnt pull in fully to a designated pick up/drop off bay. The fine is 50.00 increasing to 100.00 in 2 weeks. Everyone is telling me to ignore this as they are not legal. Where do I stand if I do ignore it? Can they enforce payment of this…

Insurance - not declaring accident
Okay so it's my fault but I need to vent! I had an accident in April 2012. Guy pulled out and hit me as I was on main road. Lots of damage to my car and personal injury from me. I claimed through his insurance and all settled. I renewed my insurance May 1st 2012 and 2013, came to do it yesterday and was asked if I had any…

Tell me about Fiat 500's
My little Clio is fast approaching the end of his life. At 15 he's starting to display signs of an ECU failure (again) and tbh the cost of replacing it isn't really worth it so I'm looking to replace the car over the summer. Fiat 500's have caught my eye. I'm nervous as I owned a Fiat Punto once and spent more time sorting…

Car damaged by a bus
I live in quite a rural area, with passing bays along the country roads. We are served by one bus into the village and one bus out of the village each day. I've had a few close calls with these buses in the past, but today one of them has actually hit my car. Instead of waiting in the passing bay right beside the bus, the…

Bristol Airport directions? The AA or Google
I aplogise in advance this is not a money saving question, but I know most people use this forum. Travelling from South Wales to Bristol Airport. Directions from the airport site itself state: Come off J22 from M4 onto the M49, join the M5, come off J18 onto the A4, follow signs for Bristol Airport and turn onto A38 Seems…

Thinking of a change - thoughts please...
Just wanted to lob this idea out to the combined wisdom of this forum and get others' input: Currently running a pretty-close-to-immaculate auto Merc C250TD estate of 1998 vintage. However, the mileage is clocking up rapidly (I'm a full time carer, but also do voluntary work which is knocking the mileage up savagely these…

Peugeot 107 - Strange rattle when lights turned on
Hi all I plan to swing by my local garage tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone here had any thoughts on what might be the cause of a rattle which developed today on my way to work after switching my lights on in the fog (not sure if it happened straight away or after a short while but now starts/stops immediately when…
