Car damaged by a bus
I live in quite a rural area, with passing bays along the country roads. We are served by one bus into the village and one bus out of the village each day. I've had a few close calls with these buses in the past, but today one of them has actually hit my car.
Instead of waiting in the passing bay right beside the bus, the driver pushed merrily on, forcing me to push my car up onto the grass verge. At this point, she stopped her bus, and could tell I was stuck. I could see she had made contact with my car's wing mirror, and she then drove off, scraping my car's wing mirror and leaving the orange paint of the bus company.
When I got home, I tried to rub the paint off but there's obviously scrape marks on the wing mirror. Nothing terrible, but it will need re-painting. I rang the bus company, who weren't bothered, gave me their insurer's details, and didn't even make a note of the incident.
Is it worth me calling their insurers to make a claim, or do I just look into getting the paint fixed myself?

Claim off the bus companies insurance and report the damage and drive away to the Police.0

He should have done that within 24 hours.
Thanks, I have already reported it to the police and got a reference number. They were sympathetic, but said that they tended to agree with my theory that it would be cheaper to get a bottle of T Cut and try to fix the paint scrapes myself, rather than play the insurance game and possibly lose my 8 years no-claims. Essentially, the idiot bus driver is going to get off scott-free© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0 -

You won't lose any no claims if you claim off the bus company just tell your own company for information only.0 -
If you report it to insurers, it's a declarable incident on any future insurance renewal or application and you will most likely pay slightly higher premiums for having an 'incident' even though the incident was not your fault. Fact of life I'm afraid. You are even obliged to declare windscreen claims now!0

It's declarable whether he reports it or not, it's a matter for the op whether he is dishonest or not.0 -

Thats not always correct.
Some insurance companies say it is "No claim, not no blame". In other words, make a claim and it doesn't matter who is to blame, you'll still lose your no claims bonus.
Thats not all insurance companies, but some it definitely is.0 -

I think it would be totally unnecessary and over-the-top to report a scratch to a door mirror that you fixed yourself. Are you going to report all the times you scrape your alloys when parking too?0 -

I don't scrape my alloys thanks.
It maybe over the top but as there is damage to the other vehicle it's certainly a reportable collision.0
