The passing bay was beside the bus? Thus not in it? So surely you'd be proceeding with caution?

If this is just one of a string of near misses then questions need to be asked of yourselve

Indeed. It's entirely possible that the bus is too long to fit in the passing bay easily. So the OP could have reversed back to the last bay and waited for the bus to come. When it was clear that the bus couldn't easily pass, the OP could have reversed.

Without seeing it, it's impossible to be sure, but the scrapes mirror cover may well just polish or t-cut out. If not, paying for paint is going to be cheaper than the risk of losing excess in a 50/50 plus five years of declaring a claim.

It is correct. If there is no claim against your insurance policy then you will not lose any NCB.

    No, you are wrong.

With some insurance companies, if there is a claim of any sort, regardless of who was at fault, the no claim bonus is affected.

Care to quote some of these insurers?

Quite simply, at year end if no claim has been made against the insurance policy in place, whether that be by themselves or a third party, +1 ncb as no claim has been made in the year.

You will not lose no claims bonus with a claim against a third party but your base premium may increase.

If your insurer's hand ends up in their pocket for some of the claim's payout, your NCB will be affected.
If your insurer's hand does not end up in their pocket, your NCB will be just fine.

    Proof?

The ONLY claim that will affect your NCB are claims that your insurer has to settle.

A former colleague of mine clipped a car door mirror while driving a bus and didn't stop. He was prosecuted for not doing so.
