Brake check
I had my car serviced about 3 months ago and specifically asked the guys (at Farmers) to check the brakes as I don't think they respond as well as they should and sometimes I hear them squeal (which I thought meant they need immediately replaced). They said all was fine but I am still hearing the odd bit squealing and I…

Who is "in charge" of traffic lights
I mean for phasings, or for repairs? Is it the town council? The local authority? The highways agency? Just pondering yesterday as I was sitting in a ridiculous traffic jam in town, caused by some new roadworks, which are scheduled to go on until November. One road, which joins the main road as a T junction is completely…

G++ VAG coolant question?
I'm losing about 100ml of coolant a month or so. it's not horrendously bad, but might want to look into that on my next service. I'm just keeping a log by marking dates on my G++ coolant bottle for now so I can show the mechanic on the service. I recently looked at the g++ bottle, the forums said that g++ was a solution…

is Pass Plus worth it after first year on the road?
Hi all, I'm 29 and have been driving for nearly a year now but am still quite nervous when it comes to motorways and confusing junctions etc. I was going to do a pass plus course but, as the time I complete it will pretty much coincide with me purchasing my second year's license, will it actually take much discount off of…

Car Dealer changed deal and wont refund deposit
Hi, on Thursday the 12th I paid a £300 deposit on a car 200 miles away from a car dealership. They said there was work to be done on the car and it would be ready for collection on Saturday 14th. I was going to travel down to trade in my old car and drive back with the new one. On Friday the 13th the dealer texts me saying…

Beware QuoteA and Broker King
I was recently quoted car insurance prices on Confused.com and TescoCompare.com that seemed too good to be true. Both QuoteA and Broker King were over £200 cheaper than any other quote. However, when I called them to pay, the quotes increased, one by £120 and one by £200. I decided not to go with either of them. If they…

Help! Received County Court Claim for a Car Accident
Hi everyone, a newbie here! My partner has been involved in car accident in June 2010. He drove a very old car and bumped into a Mazda drove by a woman. His car had to be written off but the Mazda that was bumped into only suffered from dent and scratches, and could still be used to drive. He gave his insurance details to…

Insurance - change of car
I pick up a new car this week and need to arrange insurance. My existing annual policy (paid monthly) is due for renewal in mid-August. My current insurers charge a £35 fee for changes plus whatever extra premium the new car will incur (higher group) or £55 to cancel the policy. Chances are I'll be changing policy in…

is this company legit or is it a scam?
I have advertised my smart car for sale in Autotrader. I received a phonecall from a company called Octavia in Peterborough who advised that they had seen my advert and asked if my car was still for sale. I advised that it was. He then went on to say that if I paid him £39.00 he could guarantee an offer within 30 days. I…

Tips for a first time buyer
Ok, so I've got my driving test next week and funds for the car and insurance are sorted. Presuming I pass, I'd like to sort a car out ASAP, but obviously want to get the best I can for my money. I have a budget of £2k, I've checked out insurance premiums and have narrowed it down to 4 makes/models. My question is, what…

Employer changing mileage payments to leave people out of pocket, any recourse
I've had a company car for about 2 1/2 years, so still 1 1/2 years left on the lease. It's a 2.0 Mondeo which I chose mainly for it's carrying capacity as I need to get my partner's wheelchair in the boot from time to time. I had to get rid of my good old Volvo 940 estate in order to make room for this car outside my…

Nissan messing me around - who can I complain to?!
Bit of a long story, but I bought a brand new Nissan 3 years ago, which has a fault with the alarm, and have raised this under warranty. After a lot of hassle, the dealership don't know what to do, and told me to phone the Nissan customer service phoneline. Did this a month and a half ago, but they are not sorting the…
