Can I get my deposit back?
Hi, I'm new to the forum and wonder if anyone can help me. I paid a £500 deposit (by debit card) to a leading BMW dealer in March 07 in order for them to make enquiries to BMW Finance to see if I could obtain finance (their words not mine) against a vehicle I was considering purchasing. Although I was successful in getting…

Car Maintenance: do these really require no attention?
Thinking about updating the Car Maintenance sticky thread with info about car parts requiring a bit of greasing up. I've lifted these off a dealer servicing checklist as an example of such items:* Greasing points of steering gear linkage, prop shaft and suspension * Front wheel bearing grease * Front axle joint grease in…

Car tax question
I am due to pick up a new Car (new to me, it isn't brand new) in the next week and because its coming from a Car supermarket it is not coming with any tax. Are forecourts mis-advertising pertrol/diesel?
Has anyone noticed how forecourts advertise pertrol/deisel as .9p, and never round up/down? If I were to buy say 4 litres of deisel at advertised price of 110.9p per litre, where is my .4p change? How are they allowed to do this if decimals of a penny are not 'legal tender'?

Why is taking the bus more expensive than driving the car?
I've always found this puzzling, especially since I want to take the bus more regularly to reduce my emissions. It costs me £4.50 return for a ~10 mile journey into the city (Zone 5 - Zone 1) but only £3-£3.50 using the car (based on a worse-ish case scenario of 115p/litre petrol and 30mpg). I hope no one labels me stupid…

Never rented a car before, what can go wrong.
I'm temped by Hertz weekend rental at £22 approx. As the title says I've never rented before and don't want to be caught out. I'm visiting friends for a few days, going by train, they don't have a car so renting for the weekend would be useful. What should I look out for. The website say Collision Damage Waver is included…

Good source for cheap 10w/40 motor oil?
Does anyone know any special offers anywhere? I don't know if it's me being more miserly than I used to be but I'm scared of paying £10 or so for it (especially as it gradually comes out of the bottom of the engine somewhere onto the road). I saw it in Asda today, 2 litres of Castrol for £7.97 or Asda's own brand oil in…
