Good source for cheap 10w/40 motor oil?

Does anyone know any special offers anywhere? I don't know if it's me being more miserly than I used to be but I'm scared of paying £10 or so for it (especially as it gradually comes out of the bottom of the engine somewhere onto the road).
I saw it in Asda today, 2 litres of Castrol for £7.97 or Asda's own brand oil in small bottles for 2 or 3 quid. I'm not sure about the cheap supermarket branded stuff, whether it is like cooking oil in disguise or something!
I heard about a method where you can run dirty engine oil through a couple of paper like filters and re-use it even?
Any thoughts on a good cheap source of engine oil much appreciated...

Check out National Tyres, they used to be very cheap for oil & filter change, cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Cheers for that, I'll have a look in the huge tesco nearby.

Cheers Wig, I have one quite near to me. I had it done at my local garage for £20 (I bought the filter cheaply myself), altogether about £25.
I'll give them a try next time.
I think the other part of doing the oil change is having to dispose of the oil at the local tip as well (cost of driving there).

Do not attempt to reuse old engine oil.

Cheapest available at the moment is in Asda Living, smarth price 20w/50 for £2.12. I posted about it here http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/262017/showthread.php?t=262017 A bit thicker than the 10w/40 you're looking for but if the car is that old and losing that much oil the thicker oil will probably help it stop leaking, and it's better than no oil at all.

Would be better to try stop the leak though.

Have you not seen the multitude of threads about poor service and rip-off deals from National Tyres, Kwick Fit et al? I'd steer clear personally, you'll end up paying somewhere along the line...

There's not much to go wrong in an oil change. As long as you ask them what oil they will be using and watch them do it, and check the oil level before driving away, nothing can go wrong.

its the fact they will lean on people with no car knowledge into buying brakes and tyres etc

once they mention the saftey aspect most people give in and get the work done
