Renault Megane 1.6 rattle
Hello, can anyone offer any advice on the following? Our '97 Megane has begun to rattle when started up. It then rattles occasionally, usually when we slow down or change gear, but only for the first few minutes of driving, then is fine. It sounds like it's coming from underneath so we thought it might be the exhaust but…

Shock absorbers wear from age or mileage?
Just bought some Boge hydraulic oil twin tube shock absorbers off ebay and noticed the date of manufacture is 12 years ago  (they were described as new old stock but didn't imagine they'd be quite that old). The damping action seems to have been restored by moving the piston up and down, and I assume the damping…

Car key copying
I need a replacement key for a 2002 Citroen Picasso. Ideally I'd like a remote control key but if too expensive a normal key would do. I've already contacted the main dealer for a quote but they would charge over £100. There are a number of auto locksmith websites that claim to be cheaper than a main dealer - are these…

Bell Insurance
Hi everyone Can anyone give me feedback on Bell Insurance? I got banned 12 months ago and they have just offered me a really low quote of £650 for 10 months, or £750 for 12 months. This of course has no legal cover, cover car etc and a £250 compulsory excess with 0 voluntary. Its about £300 cheaper than anywhere else I…

I was thinking of a renault clio or pug but not sure. It is due to the cost of fuel for commuting, my old ladies will have to put up with a smaller vehichle and the 4x4…

How long have I got before I need to replace tyres?
I drive a Renault Modus automatic car, which is just 3 years old. My car had its first MOT today (and passed) but I was told by the dealer that 3 of the tyres are down to 3mm tread depth and the rear left is down to 2mm, so all of them need to be replaced. They have quoted me £85 per tyre (total £340) but I've just spent…

Baby seats for small cars
Hi, My first child is due in three months, and we have been given a nearly new Mothercare travel system. I know the warnings about secondhand car seats but we know its history. However I have just tried out the car seat in my Fiat Cinquecento and it doesn't fit - the seatbelt is too short by about 6 inches. So we are going…

Brake Light Out
Yesterday I noticed one of my brake lights was out. Today I bought a new bulb, fitted it and everything was fine. An hour later I noticed the light was again not working - however this time the bulb hadn't blown and I can only assume that there is a fault with the connector (I established this my swapping the left/right…

What was this beautiful car?
Got overtaken today by the most beautiful car I have ever seen. From the front looks like the kind of car that posh people have for weddings but is squashed into a sports car shape. The back window was split into two like beetle wings. Any ideas?

Martin's 10 ways to save fuel advice
This was in today's Sun newspaper by Martin: 1 - Only use your car if it's necessary. If the destination is close by, walk or bike it. 2 - Keep your car well maintained. A poorly tuned engine can up fuel consumption by a massive 50 per cent. 3 - Plan your journey. According to the RAC, British drivers waste the equivalent…
