how can I find out if the garage has any diesel/petrol

I dont need to fill up just yet and dont want to panick buy either, I drive past a few garages on the way and back from work but there are a few which have ran out of petrol/diesel and I dont want to go to the cheapest and find out that they've ran out.

Drive to Exeter where some bloke was charging £1.99 a litre for the stuff!
I know were all moaning about the cost, but it's still cheaper than Vodka...

Phone them. I drove to the cheapest around last night to find they only had V Power. Will need some soon but not sure if I can get back to that garage.

our local esso (tesco) ran out today - phoned tonight but they don't know when the next delivery will be

phoned the next filling station (8 miles) away and they have some but the problem is my car says I've got 6 miles worth of fuel left !
