Cancelling an order for a new car

It depends on what you've signed and the terms relating to the contract of sale.
It's probably worth talking to the dealer first but I'm sure they're within their rights to keep the deposit.
If it's a popular make/model/colour then the dealer should have no trouble selling on and might agree to cancel your particular order.0 -
Ask nicely and explain the reasons; they're not obliged to refund. I have worked for a Volvo main dealer in the past and have known deposits to be refunded, but it really does depend. As oldagetraveller says, if it's popular, you'll have more chance, if it's something a bit different they'll struggle to resell it.0

Ask nicely, hope for the best, better to write off a £500 deposit than loose the same every month in depreciation over the first couple of years on a car that you don't like or don't feel is worth it to you.
What was it you have a deposit on?
Might be able to suggest either a cheaper way into the same car or an alternative car that will be less costly and possibly more suitable.0
