Hi, We are both first time buyers looking to purchase a new build in Scotland for £250k. We had been looking to go for the house that's came up next year when the next phase of the scheme got released. But this week we received a phone call saying someone has backed out and we are 1st on the reserve list! Luckily enough…

Impressed with Santander
Application was submitted to Santander 20 April and tthe mortgage offer arrived at solicitors 8 May. I've been really impressed with their level of service. Having a good broker has been a godsend. Barclays Stepped Mortgage 95% non HTB?
Is this for real? Barclays seem to be offering 95% mortgage that beats HTB on a 5 year fix The higher rate of payment is 4.19% which is significantly below the 4.89% the other best 5 year fix HTB mortgage rates are set at. Am I missing something ? Seems like it should be too good to be true :j

A mortgage underwriter's insight | What does the general process look like in 2015?
I came across this thread from 2009 by forum user @opinions4u, describing the underwriting process and the factors, criteria and inputs that underwriters evaluate in making lending decisions. I found it really insightful and helped me to see things from the underwriter's (and hence, lender's) perspective. Are there any…

Update. Nationwide did a valuation and it came back as satisfactory. My app has since been with underwriters who requested text overviews to go with my Sa302s and a utility bill marked "flat 504" not just "504". All sent on Monday via email and fine Broker says then we should hear in 2 days. I just get a text from…

Remortgating - drop in salary/affordability
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? I have had quite a significant drop in salary since I last re-mortgaged, resulting in me not being able to pass the affordability tests. I come to the end of my fixed rate deal in a couple of weeks, and going onto the variable rate will increase my repayments by £60, which I…

Shared Ownership - Can I Put it Only in my Partners Name?
We're considering a shared ownership option as we can't get what we need on the open market. We are a married couple with 1 child and another on the way. The problem is my credit is not good enough to get a mortgage. We have a combined income of about £75k, which is viable for some shared ownership places who say a maximum…

Question about paying off debt with equity from house sale
My family and I are relocating to a new town. We've sold our home and have agreed a 12 month tenancy, happier initially to rent whilst we find our feet in our new surroundings. My question regards the most effective way to utilise around 50k worth of equity we'll be left with once our mortgage is paid up. Specifically,…
