How much can I borrow?
I currently have a mortgage of £200,000 with the property worth £380. I want to get a new mortgage and do this with my partner . They have a salary of 30,000 with me on the same £30,000. What would be the maximum I could borrow on a 25 year mortgage? Thanks.

Early Repayment Charges
Hi I've got a mortgage with The Mortgage Works which is interest only. However I've got a reasonable sum of cash sat in a savings account that I'm planning to use to make an early repayment. However I'm being put off a bit from doing so by the fact that The Mortgage Works has an 'Early Repayment Charge' of £90. Does anyone…

Mortgage with accidental CCJ!
I recently discovered that I have a County Court Judgment on my credit record as the result of a parking charge from the notorious Parking Eye in June 2013, when they claim I overstayed in a car park. They wrote to me at the time, I telephoned them to query the charge and they said they would suspend action while they…

Expensive ground rent - can it be challenged?
My partner and I have just had an offer accepted on a leasehold flat. It's a ground floor conversion in a victorian terrace. The estate agent has told us that the ground rent is £500 per annum, and that we will be responsible for buildings insurance as there is no service charge. I was expecting ground rent of around…

Stamp duty reforms from midnight tonight.
The new rates will be: nothing on the first £125,000, 2% on the share above that up to £250,000; then 5% on the next slice up to £925,000; then 10% on the next slice up to £1.5m; then 12% on everything above that. IE: If you buy a house at £300,000 then it will be 2% on £125k to £250k PLUS 5% on the remaining £50k Seems…

Bank of Ireland and credit files
Hi all, I've just logged on to my credit expert file and there are 4 new recorded searches by Bank of Ireland. This has knocked my score, and I know it's only relevant to me, from 982 excellent to 901 good. Why has it had such an impact? Nothing else has changed. If this mortgage falls through this could have a major…

Early Repayment Charges
Hi all. I took a £50k mortgage in Nov 2005. I've noticed on a statement that I was charged a reducing early repayment charge in each of the first five years. Starting at £2,500, £2,000, £1,500, £1,000 and finally £500. A total of £7,500. For the life of me, I really don't understand what this is for. It was a brand new…

Fix for 2 or 4+ years
Remortgaging house at start of new year, currently on an 85% LTV 2 year fix at 3.94%. Property value increased by almost by 2.5-5% during that period (not quite enough to apply for an 80% LTV). Am I best getting a 2 year fix and then an 80% LTV in two years time when the value will have risen, or fix at 85% LTV for 4-5…
