Change from Int only to repayment over phone
I enquired by telephone about changing from interest only to repayment. Nothing came in writing, so had to phone up a couple more times. Next thing I know, my mortgage payment for end April has gone up £1000, and a letter arrives, stating the new amount. I didn't get a quotation, or confirm in writing that this is what I…

Terrible News - I feel sick
Hi All:( My broker just called me to tell me that my application had been referred to "Halifax Head Office" and was immidiately declined. No reason......nothing. Why do these stupid banks do this - why give me an AIP when they can just make an immidiate decssion to say NO just 1 day later. My dream house is gone, my wife…

Can the bank actually do this?
Hi all, really annoyed here, we purchased 2 overseas properties (cyprus) through a an investment company, we have paid 20% for each property with 80% to be mortgaged. The apartments are ready and handover is soon. I have just been told that the mortgage company/Bank (Alpha bank) can only give us 60% on one of the…

Rescinded mortgage - my rights
Hi I have recently had a mortgage offer rescinded after the bank changed their minds regarding the nature of my deposit (I was buying a flat with a family friend who was putting 50% of the money down in cash and we were doing a deed of trust as he wasn't on the mortgage application). They had already issued a firm offer to…

Bank notifying us of underpayments
Hi there, we have just received a letter this week from our mortgage and bank account provider the Clydesdale Bank. We are the lucky ones, before the interests crashed, decided on an offset tracker mortgage and now pay 1.5% which is terrific! no complaints there! :T However, our letter stated that they have done a mortgage…

For various reasons we want to stick with our bank, not look for other deals. We're umming and ahhing about the potential of future interest rates, where up is the only way, but the question is how long. Fixed rate 2 ys: 4.09% 3 ys: 4.59% 4 ys: 5.49% Tracker is 2.64% above base. which one would you choose. The difference…

Santander - you couldn't make it up...
Thought I'd share this tale with you - I'm remortgaging with First Direct, all going smoothly until I'm told that my previous mortgage company, Abbey National, still has a charge on the property registered with Land Registry. This despite my mortgage being paid off two years ago... As FD won't lend until that charge is…

Mortgage in Principle
As title, We are still waiting for a buyer for our flat, and are getting a bit twitchy about rates & stuff, we have a house we want, if we apply for a mortgage in principle, does that mortgage stay frozen for us until we move? Or is it just a case of, yes, we can give you that mortgage, but it can change at any time in…

Fixed or Tracker
Hi All - bit of advice (again!!) please. My broker has advised that I stick with a tracker mortgage for two years as the fixed rate is 1.65% more. With the Bank of England changing interest rates 0.25% at a time, that would mean that they would have to increase rates 7 times within 8 chances. Am I right with this or not?
