northern rock chaos

Am hoping someone might be able to give me some advice.
I split up with my partner last june,we had a house in joint names with northern rock,i spoke to northen rock to let them know i had left the property and that my ex would be still living there,i was informed that the morgage was in arrears,i paid the bills and my partner paid the morgage(or so i thought)
The arrears now stand at fifteen thousand pounds as the arrears had started in may 2008,i wasnt aware of any of this my partner had been hiding the post.
I have tried many times to speak to northern rock and all they keep saying is they keep starting legal proceedings but then my ex makes a small payment and all legal action gets dropped.
I tried the volantry surrendar route which my ex signed and then on the day he was meant to move out he rang up and put a payment plan in to place,he still hasnt paid,i pay as much as i can each month but am in rented property so dont have much spare money.the morgage is on intrest only until october
i have wrote to the ombudsman to see if they can help, the house has been for sale since last july with no intrest at all
all i want is for the house to get repossessed and then i can move on with my life
Sorry for going on but i am so fustrated as my debt is going up and up whilst my ex is still in the propery and not paying
any advice would be greatly appriciated
thanks Amanda

Unfotunately as you are aware, you are both jointly liable for the mortgage if your names are both on the mortgage0
