Term Assurance
Hello all, firstly I apologize if this is a naive question but I'm not very money minded (hence this site is a god send). I took out a mortgage in 2001 and was told at the time that I had to get Term Assurance in case of critical illness. It's costing me almost £250/year but I'm not sure I need it. Is it right that it…

Applying by post or branch
Hi, FTB Looking at a fixed rate mortgage from Abbey (have found brokers are not getting better results than going direct). Is there any advantage (speed wise) in going and doing this in the branch? I.e.Do they take copies of our payslips, ID there and then, or do they just use the time to try and sell you other products?

Worried sick - please help...
Hi, Due to my own stupidity, I have received (and paid) a Penalty Notice for Disorder (PND) from the Police for behavior likely to cause alarm and distress - from what I gather, those caught urinating in the street are often given a PND for this. This penalty is not a criminal conviction and nor does it create a criminal…

Went back on to SVR, then started sub-letting, then lost my job!
Haven't managed to find anything very similar to this on other posts, so here goes: Bought a flat two years ago for £154,000 with a 2-year fixed-rate Halifax mortgage of £105,000 (I put down a deposit of £49,000). That ran out in July this year but because of falling house prices affecting my Loan-to-Value (LTV went over…

i got mortgage in 1994, though an independant advisor. It's with the Abbey and i have an endowment on it. At the time i just agreed to what was offered as i was desparate to leave my ex-bf. I don't really understand about endowments, and i never really took much notice of the letters sent once a year, so i'm not sure if it…

First Time Buyer - Fixed or Variable?
I am a first time buyer and hopefully going to be looking at houses below £175,000. I am unsure as to whether I should look at fixed or variable / tracker mortgages. I will have a 20% deposit available. My initial searches have shown differences in monthly payments of £200. Not sure if the security of a fixed is worthwhile…

Fixed Vs Variable on mortgage
Hi, I am currently applying for a mortgage of 75% LTV, unfortunately my wife has 3 defaults that are due to end in Jan 2012. I have been turned down by the large high street banks but have been offered a few deals from Beacon (who accept defaults). 1) 4.9% Variable with a three year tie in. 2) 6% Fixed for two years. I do…
