Replacing lead in 'valley'
Hello good people. I live in a 1920's terrace with a double story extension out the back that may well have been put on at the time of construction. I have a leak in the valley part of my roof that needs some attention. I had a roofer round whom was recommended by a chap at work, he lives round the corner from me and is…

Chimney Rebuild cost
We've had some damp around the fireplaces in our house (a standard 2 bed terrace) and suspected it was to do with the chimney. A builder who specialises in chimney work came round to have a look and said it's in pretty bad shape and in need of rebuilding - he's quoted a staggering 11k to do it  this includes scaffold,…

Tiling
We are renovating an old cottage and putting on an extension. The builder has quoted £33/sq m for tiling the floors - with us providing the tiles. Sounds like a heck of a lot to us but we have no idea how much tilers usually charge. Any thoughts?

Had the estate agent get me a quote for the work (as I'm not local) and I just wanted to check whether it was fair, or if I should ask for another one. Work as follows: Securely fix existing slipped tiles back into position & replace any broken ones. Re-…

Boarding and skimming ceilings with new coving quote
Hi all We've just moved into our three bed 1930's semi which needs decorating throughout. The ceilings (apart from the upstairs and downstairs hallways) are covered in woodchip wallpaper over lath and plaster ceilings. Understandably we want the ceilings sorted out! A plasterer came over earlier this week and suggested…

Quote for Tiling Hall
Hi Have someone popping around to quote fitting ceramic tiles around 40cm x 40cm in my hall, measuring approx 9.5sqm. Currently laminate on concrete. I will remove the laminate. Guess this would be a days work to tile and then half a day to grout, so would £250 be a fair guide, excluding materials? I'm in South Midlands/…

Karndean quote
I've had a quote for fitting Karndean in a bathroom. The room is 2.9mx 2m which I make 5.8msq. Quote has come in as £575 which I calculate is £99 per sqm. That does seem like an awful lot to me. The quote includes fitting, adhesive and everything including boarding. Is this reasonable? I might just start looking at tiles…
