Is my solar quote a fair price

Hi
I have justed been quoted by Ideal Solar for 8 monocrystaline solar panels, voltage optimiser, battery and fitting for £6784. Is this a fair price?.
I am also confused how much money I shall make, as we have a combiboiler for heating water which will not benefit from these panels.
I was told that the monies I make and save from the panels would offset most of the costs of my gas use. Is this correct? Our total bill for gas and electricity is £900 a year.
Can anyone help me please?
Jackie

what's the total wattage of the solar panels being installed?
either way you are being taken for a ride!0 -
1800 KWh/year I think0

Solar has fallen out of fashion, so I am not up to speed.
I have panels so am aware of the basics. I am shocked at your quote, but also your lack of knowledge. I say this because it used to be a FiT and mcs requirement for consumers to be fully briefed on everything, in writing, before any contract was signed. Hence you would have a breakdown of all costs, linked to your postcode, orientation, roof pitch, and the financial returns. You do not appear to know the hard facts on the financial returns - why is this?
As a rule panels have fallen from favour because the financial returns are poor. Bear this in mind when reviewing your quote.0 -
You are not even aware of what I was asking?
are you even sure you need it installed? :rotfl:
What is the panel wattage that are being installed? not your energy usage or possible ''savings'' someone has pulled out of a thin air.
I was asking what kind of pannels exactly are being installed to see how fair is the quote..0 -

Hiya. That's a tough one, as you mention a battery, which throws up all sorts of cost combinations, and could alone be £2k+ of the price.
However, assuming it's a 2kWp system (8 x 250Wp panels), then that seems too high.
Ideally you want to get around 4kWp for £5k.
Voltage optimiser is pointless for domestic use. It simply lowers the voltage if it is too high. However, many domestic items can now do this, plus anything designed to generate heat directly (toaster, kettle, heater etc) would simply produce more heat proportional to the extra voltage, so a lower voltage would simply mean the kettle takes longer to boil, but no cost saving.
Batteries, lots of long term promise, but probably still several years away from being economic in the UK, perhaps 2020(ish) as they are falling in price.
If you want more advice from PV'ers, then pop onto the Green & Ethical board and ask away. Some general advice on PV in the FAQs, see sections 1 & 2, and perhaps 5 for an estimate of generation.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.0
