Chimney Rebuild cost

We've had some damp around the fireplaces in our house (a standard 2 bed terrace) and suspected it was to do with the chimney. A builder who specialises in chimney work came round to have a look and said it's in pretty bad shape and in need of rebuilding - he's quoted a staggering 11k to do it  this includes scaffold, using the original bricks, and any work that needs doing to the surrounding roof.
From what I've read a chimney rebuild normally costs around 3k, so I'm astounded by what he has quoted. Are there any circumstances where such an expensive quote could be valid? The builder has a very good reputation locally so isn't a cowboy.

He may not want the work, and he may not need the work - he could be too busy. Re using the original bricks may also be a clue - this says every brick is being removed by hand, then individually cleaned, then stored before being re-used.0

That's a very, very high quote. Reusing bricks should be cheaper than buying new, even if they do need cleaning first.
Get 2/3 other quotes from builders.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
It does sound dear and without full details it's hard to advise, but it could be the extent of the roof work rather than the chimney rebuild that is pushing the price up.
As already recommended, get other quotes but avoid mentioning that you have already had a quote as this could affect the price you are given. You may also be advised of more cost effective ways to tackle the problem than your first quote has advised.0 -
Might be cheaper demolishing it and redoing it in reclaimed bricks sourced from the reclaimers.0
