White Vinegar
Anyone know where you can buy 5L packs of distilled white vinegar from the High Street? I know you can get it online via Amazon etc but you always take the risk of something like this getting damaged and spilt when ordered online so I would prefer to buy it from a physical shop if I can. Most places I've been to only seem…

Black plastic floor tiles query
Hi I’m fitting new skirting boards in my lounge and under the underlay are place plastic or vinyl tiles, 10” x 10”. Thinking that carpet fitters would probably fit new gripper rods, I’ve taken some rods up but some tiles are broken underneath. Just wondering if there’s anything I can use to replace them along the edge. Any…

I was planning on putting 8mm laminate but have found some 12mm I like so I'm going with this. Problem is I can't find a z bar to accomodate a 17mm total height for the floor for the door threshold (carpeted hallway on…

New fence, developed gaps
Hi,I was hoping someone could please offer some advice. We have recently had two new fences installed by the same trader (one at the front of the house and the other in our back garden). Both have developed large gaps between the feather boards within a few weeks and they are progressively getting worse. The gaps in the…

Paint tester - showing through after redecoration
Hi all. We tried a few different shades before we redecorated. We didn't notice at the time, but now about a year or so later, we can clearly see where the testers have been used. We're thinking of applying a further coat of paint, but do you have any advice for me? Do I need to apply some sort of stain block, or is this…

Painting old shed
Our shed was previously coated in solvent based wood preservative in a red cedar colour. I want to paint it in another colour (maybe cream or light grey). Apart from a light sanding, do I need to do any other preparation work eg primer coat? I plan to use cuprinol garden shades.

Back door multipoint lock issues
Our composite back door handle is playing up. It’s a multipoint mechanism, with central lock and a top and bottom claw type latch too. I’ve had to take the handle off twice to get it open, not really sure what I done to fix it but it worked. I’m trying to avoid paying a locksmith for obvious reasons - are these multipoint…

Silicone caulk expired?
Hi all, had to silicone some wide spaces in my partners conservatory dog grooming 'salon'. Quotes for new windows?
I've recently moved into my first home and my partner and I didn't realise quite how much we would be able to hear road noise from our back bedroom / office. We've had someone come out and check, and they have advised that we should upgrade our single glazing to double glazing. We were quoted initially at £500 per window…

New bathroom - are the leftover tiles mine or the bathroom company's?
We're the middle of having a bathroom refurb and looks like there's going to be loads of tiles left over, perhaps enough for me to do another shower room in future. The tiler reckons the fitters will expect to take away spares at the end. I thought I'd own them. The supply and fitting are two separate quotes from two…

Wiring a cooker
Can I get a socket with a switch,to hardwire the cooker to directly? Or does it need 2separate sockets? The wire goes inside the wall, and I don't know if I can remove it and put a new one in. It…
