Shared Driveway
Hello :) I was wondering if anyone had any advice please? We have recently moved into our first home. We were told by the previous owners numerous times before we moved in, on the day we moved in and even now once we are in that there is an agreement with the neighbours who we share the drive with that we park on the drive…

Neighbours CCTV Cameras pointing at our Property
Our next door neighbours moved into their property 3 months ago. 1 month ago they decided to install 9 CCTV cameras all around their property. 4 of the cameras are pointing at our property. Has anyone else had a similar problem, if so I would really appreciate some advice on the quickest way to resolve the problem.

Garden Fence
Hi I live in a privately rented property with a council property next door. The fence between our back gardens is in a dangerous condition and is falling down. It has been in a poor state since we moved in and gets worse whenever we have high winds. I contacted the council as I am concerned about my child getting hurt if…

Electric towel rail recommendations
Hi I’m redoing my bathroom and looking for a small to medium straight electric towel rail with timer. All electric property and will be fitting a Dimplex fan heater for instant heat when needed. It will be partially behind a door so no deeper than 80mm ideally. The Electrorad ones look good but any other recommendations…

Could dust from neighbors building works clog up drains?
Evening all, So my neighbor has had some building work done, there's a bit of dust build up on the shared drive as a result. They'll most probably pressure wash it, and we're due some rain. However, I'm wondering if this could potentially clog up the drains at all? If so, what would be the best way to deal with it?…

External bifold door latch not working
I’ve just come to shut the bifold door and the handle would only go so far before getting stuck. I had a quick look at the protruding rod at the bottom and this seemed ok, the one at the top was struggling to travel through the plastic ‘guide’. I took this off and the door latch closed fine. So the rod is really struggling…

Aesthetics of extension adjacent to garage
Our house has quite a lot of land to the side of our garage/house. We are hoping to do a ground floor extension soon and the best ideas we have had for internal layouts extend with a semi wrap around extension to part of the side and rear. I am concerned of how the aesthetics would look with something “bolted” to the side…

Construct a 'brick' wall from recycled concrete slabs?
Hello Forum members with advice for an enthusiastic DIYer, I am hoping to build a lean-to glasshouse in the garden against my garage, with a footprint of around 6' x 12'. I've decided to build a low wall (maybe 8 -10 inches tall) to sit the structure on. Meanwhile, over the past few months, I have lifted lots of concrete…

How easy is it to customise Howdens units?
Does anyone have any experience in modifying / customising Howdens units for non-standard sized spaces? The reason I ask is because I'm quite keen on the 680mm Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer but I'd like it boxed in. This would require a 720mm void and a 720mm half height wall unit attached to a full length end panel which…

H07RN - 3 core 1.5mm
I have an appliance to install shortly and I'm looking to pickup 3m of H07. I've looked at Screwfix, CEF etc, but I'm not seeing what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? (I prefer to call into a supplier rather than online).

How to fix water damaged wall
So one of my walls has some quite bad damage due to a leak in my neighbours roof (we have a shared wall). The leak is now fixed and so I need to fix the crack. From the photo below, you can see there is a sheet of chipboard running perpendicular into the wall, presumably to allow some expansion between the two sections of…

Wonky floorboards - do I contact carpenters or joiners?
Hi all, I have a carpet and you can feel the bumps in the floor due to the floorboards under the carpet. The floorboards are fine - not in a state of disrepair just a bit wonky. I am planning to get a new carpet with a thick underlay, but I would like someone to make the floorboards a bit more even. Is this sort of thing…

Artex vs Sandtex
Hello Not sure if this is the right place for a question like this but here we go... We have recently bought our first house and most of the ceilings are covered with a textured surface that our survey said “might” be artex/asbestos. We have had a plasterer in who says this is more than likely sandtex so he can scrape it…

Drawing own plans for extension
Hi all! So we would like to put a small extension on the front of our house. It is very simple; we currently have an overhanging canopy roof and we'd like to build a porch area that comes out to the edge of the roof (around 1.5m deep) and bring the base of our bay window out so the wall is also in line with the roof. We…

Tiling reclaimed Victorian hearth tiles - general advice needed
Hi, We've recently got our original Victorian floorboards restored upstairs - we would quite like to place decorative hearth tiles in the gaps where the hearths used to be. I'm wondering about the best way to go about this, it's our first house so I'm somewhat new to DIY but am thinking/hoping this should be a job I can…

Double Glazing Bar Removal
Hi, I hope someone can help me before I go nuts! I am replacing some UPvC glazing units that are blown, the standard glazing bars come out easily just by working along with a strong scraper, but I have some in a conservatory that are proving impossible to remove, possibly they are a kind of security type. These bars have a…

Basin waste pipe gradient
Hi Just redoing my bathroom and I notice that the basin waste pipe is actually sloping up to the join with the bath pipe. The small piece of pipe was wedged in to hold it and I can hear water from when last used. Only way I can get a downward slope or at least level would be to make the join lower at the bath waste pipe…
