Loft Conversion
Hi guys, I have been having a debate with someone regarding a loft conversion. On a 2 bedroom bungalow (125m2) worth £300k, how much more value would converting the lift create? The other bungalows on the street have done this and managed to get 1 - 2 rooms up there. My question is, roughly how much will it cost and how…

Should I clean the threads on waste pipes or U-bnds on sinks etc.
Hi there folks, Its a simple thing but more often than not when cleaning the waste, or ubends on the sinks, I try to stay clear of cleaning the actual threads on these fittings as I have this idea that maybe the bit of dirt on there is maybe helping to seal the fittings and maybe a thorough clean of the actual threads…

Air Conditioning
Hi, We live in a top story old period flat that gets incredibly hot over the summer and are thinking of purchasing/installing an air conditioner unit. In continental Europe, split system is the way to go, it's efficient, easy to install (professionally), cheap and common. But in the UK this does not seem the case. 1. How…

Stoves Gas Oven - Gas keeps turning off
Hello all, I have a 3 year old Stoves SGB700PS Double Oven which was about £550 new but now out of warranty. Basically had it removed from my flat about 3 months ago and it was working fine. This week it was fitted to my new home (Gas safe Plumber) and he showed it working briefly before he went. I cooked a meal last night…

Gas Service
Now that restrictions may be lifted does anyone know if my boiler cover warranty is invalid as it hasn’t been serviced due to coronavirus. The company says that they will only attend a breakdown. Are they in breach of contract if they do not service my boiler. My home is empty. Help appreciated. Jamie

Patio/paving recommendations
We are looking to replace an area of 58sq m in the back garden, a combination of old, wonky uneven patio (concrete slabs) and old decking. We’d like a very modern, clean lines look to the patio, as opposed to the rougher, concrete type of slab that will be coming up. what options do we have? And what type of slab would you…

The drains have never been up to the job and periodically we have to get a plumber to unblock them. My downstairs toilet has had a raised water level for about 3 days and last night, my…

Getting bulk bags delivered (sub-base/sharp sand)
Hi all I have recently bought a property and the garden needed some work. I'm building a patio and I need to get a few bulk bags of type 1 and sharp sand delivered. I haven't had a delivery this large before. Some of the companies that I've looked at only offer kerbside delivery, which means I'll need to transport around 5…

Drill Screw Above Radiator
Hi, I've recently moved into a new build property and want to hang a clock. The clock isn't very heavy and was held up in my previous house with one plug and screw. I've got a stud detector and its finding a stud exactly where I want to hang the clock but its also detecting metal in the same place. Radiator pipes are…

We've had a visitor... what was it?
Hi guys, In the first week of Lockdown, just after the initial novelty wore off, we decided to clear out the garage - we noticed some fresh droppings then but didn't think much off it. Our cat took a bit of interest in where they were after we'd cleaned them up but that was the end of it. Now they've appeared on our…

Fridge icing and won't drain
My Indesit fridge freezer (purchased in 2013) seems to be icing at the back, then any drain off when dial turned down creates a puddle at the bottom which freezes again when temp dial turned up. I have pulled out the plastic rod and twirled it round the drain hole which does not drain (probably iced) Sticking a cotton bud…

Demolish and rebuild garage
Hi all We were looking to do a single storey extension above the garage. Then came to the thought that the foundations for the garage are unlikely to be deep enough. A couple of questions please. Washing machine, fix or replace?
So I have a logik washing machine, basically the cheapest one from Curry's, about 2 years old and it's just given up. The error code suggests a problem with the motor. Is it worth fixing, long term and money wise or would I be better off just buying a new one for £150? The door lock mechanism broke last year and I replaced…

LED bulbs for outside use?
We have two strings of lights that have small round bulbs, SES 15w clear. They screw into holders clamped to the cable and there is a rubber gasket that seals onto the glass. Are there any LED bulbs to replace them? I cannot find out if the ones with plastic bases are OK in the rain.
