Levelling compound for use over tiles
Our kitchen floor has old, badly laid quarry tiles on it. I'm preparing it to have vinyl laid over it. The tiles are fairly uneven (few mm difference in height between neighbouring tiles, so I assume it needs levelling first. The other day I used Mapei Ultimate Leveller 1210 but had to take it all up again before it had…

Strong musty smell - what to do next?
Hi, My parents have been complaining for probably over 6 months now, of a musty smell in their house. The smell is worse when they have been away for a while at their caravan and return to the house. Sacking a builder
To make long story short - somebody's done a very poor plastering job and I have sacked them. Well, almost - I have told them I am not happy and that I will get 2nd opinion regarding further course of action. I've not paid anything. He has offered to rectify but I do not trust he is skilled enough to do it and I'm worried…

Hi all, Looking for some advice and general comments here. What is a 'reasonable time' to allow the builder to remove the scaffolding? We have asked them to remove within 21 days, after that, we will charge them storage fee (at £100 a day) and also the cost of disposal of the scaffold. The question is whether 21 days is…

Solid/engineered wood flooring
Does anyone know roughly how much this costs per sq metre? We have been quoted £82 per sq m plus fee for glueing and fitting. This is for rustic oak oiled planks. This is a local high street shop, but seems a bit dear to me.

Mystery pipe in my garden
Whilst digging into my border today planting some flowers, I came across a pipe. It's white, ridged on the outside, smooth on the inside, and looks to be made of ceramic or clay, because chips came off it when I hit it with my trowel. The part of the pipe I dug to is 2 pieces that are not attached, with about 1/2 inch…

Floor protection... help!
Just had a new, lightish-coloured ceramic tile floor laid in a dining room and want to protect against marks/scratches from table and chair legs.
