2 layers of 50mm celotex board v 1 layer of 100mm
As silly as this sounds would it make any difference using 2 layers of 50mm v 1 layer of 100mm? Would the thermal properties be roughly the same? It will be to insulate a stud wall which boarders a cold roof void. The reason for not using 100mm to start with is I will need to slide the boards up behind a beam and it would…

Cistern to pan connection
Am just replacing a Fluidmaster siphon with a new one as the old had stopped working. The close coupled cistern has a 2 1/2 inch hole in the bottom but the gaskets/washers supplied with the Fluidmaster only fit 2 in or 2 1/4 in holes. Years ago when I fitted the previous one I ended up doing a bodge job (unusual for me)…

How to Heat One Room Cheaply?
My bedroom gets quite chilly at night. When I'm in bed I'm fine but the air is jusg cold. I know the obvious is to have the heating on overnight but I don't want to heat the whole house as that's usually fine for a few hours in the morning only. I was thinking an electric strip heater (IE, not a fan one) but don't know if…

Cold draft / Condensation - Faulty Beading?

Help with an invoice...
Hi all. Hoping someone can help. My mother in law recently had a cleaning company round to her house for a domestic clean with the idea of it becoming a monthly thing. On their website they charge £15 per hour + a £12 petrol charge for clients living over a certain distance away. The managing director came to the house and…

Washing Machine Filter
I have just spent an exhausting hour dealing with a flooded kitchen. I had a warning error message that the filter was blocked. I regularly use white vinegar and/or soda crystals to clean my washing machine, and always a cup of soda crystals with every wash. Now this does an excellent job of keeping the machine clean and…

Ceramic or Sealed plate hob?
Hi all Wonder if anyone can give their opinion/advice. I'm in need of a new cooker and currently have a very old (around 8 years) electric sealed plate one. Now as much as I'd love to get gas, I'm unable to as there isn't a gas pipe in my kitchen to fit one. I live in a flat and have already enquired with the letting agent…

Hot water taps - any experience?
We recently bought a new house and are running in to problems with how long it takes to get hot water to the kitchen and the cloakroom sinks. The boiler is situated at the back of the house in the utility room, and the kitchen and cloakroom are at the front roughly 15m away. It takes at least a minute to get hot water, by…

Hi I am replacing an old kitchen tap with a new mixer type tap. However after connecting all the bits & pieces I note that the new flexible hose is too long for existing plumbing. I'm completely new to plumbing and fitting taps and this is the first one. Is there something I can do without messing too much with existing…

Painting Pine Furniture.
Hi. I have a really ugly, huge pine wardrobe which I would like to paint in a light colour. What is the easiest and most cost and time effective way of going about this? Which paints would be the best option? I'm hoping that there's a paint that I can use without having to prep the wood in advance. Also is it best to use a…
