Builder refuse to take my skip

Hello guys,
Thanks for the help.
So the previous builder has left their skip on our driveway since September ( they finish their job 90% and then just ran off with the money) and today I received a letter from council stating their skip need to be taken away within 5 working days, but I couldn't get in contact with my builder anymore and I have already paid full price for the skip to the builder. So I refuse to paid anything extra and the skip do not belong to me.
Do you guys have any advise of what should I do?
Thanks for the help.

Phone the number on the skip and tell them to collect it.0

Presumably the skip is currently on council land? I suggest you pay someone to collect it in the next five days and then worry about how to try and claim it back from your absent builder. It will be cheaper for you to arrange to have it collected than the council charging you to remove it.0

I am guessing the builder ordered the skip, and probably paid for it too. Just ring the number/company written in the side of the skip, as you did not order it, and they will take it away; with any outstanding money charged to whoever ordered it.0 -
This, the skip should in theory have contact information for the company that owns it (which won't be the builder).Phone the number on the skip and tell them to collect it.
The only issue might be if the builder hasn't paid for the skip, although I'd guess any outstanding fees would be a lot less than the council will likely charge if they end up sorting out it's collection as they'll include a handling and probably storage charge.0 -
Regardless skips are expensive, the company that owns it will want it back one way or the other. It's also most likely it was paid on delivery, they usually are. This, the skip should in theory have contact information for the company that owns it (which won't be the builder).

Welcome to MSE.

Don't muddle up your dispute with the builder and your negotiations with the local council.
Also you refer to "my skip" in the title, but "their skip ... that do not belong to me" in the body of your post.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
One thing I don't understand. So the previous builder has left their skip on our driveway since September ( they finish their job 90% and then just ran off with the money) and today I received a letter from council stating their skip need to be taken away within 5 working days,
If the skip is on your driveway, why would the council be interested about it?
I thought that provided it was on private land and it wasn't a health or safety hazard to anyone that goes near it then the council wouldn't have any power to insist it was removed.0 -

I'm in the mood for wild speculation. I'd say it's partially over the pavement/footpath.0 -
Will we ever know, or will skipgate be another OP who came, asked, and beggered off?0
