Should my new slate tiles have scratches?
I've just bought some slate wall tiles for my bathroom and around 1/4 are scratched. Some are only the length of a thumbnail, some look like a cat has scratched them. The supplier says this is natural and won't accept them as faulty. Does anyone know if this is true or are they pulling the wool over my eyes?

Rendering around a new Front door
Hi All Just looking for some help. We're planning on having a new front door fitted but the external wall has a render finish on it which the door company say is likely to be damaged when the old one is removed. I'm trying to get some idea on costs to have the render repaired afterwards but so far all the plasterers I've…

Hoover Washer Dryer Quote

Concrete base cost
Does anyone know approx how much a concrete base 10056mm x 4386mm (44.1m²) should cost? I would need the grass digging out, 4 inches of gravel hardcore laying and a damp proof membrane putting down. The base would need to be a minimum of 4 inches in thickness. The ground is flat. I need to stand a timber-constructed…

Bedroom double glazed window
Hi Double glazed window doesn't open, handle lifts up but the "locks" within the frame doesn't move. I'm not DIY minded, so, would be pointless attempting to do it myself, is this an easy fix for a contractor to do, and what costs would I be looking at.

Need help prioritising home improvements with our income/debt situation
Hi everyone – new to the board, so please let me know if I leave anything out. It's a little long: I have a savings pot for home improvements. I wanted to have the hardwoods refinished, but our garage roof is now in need of replacing. It's a prefab concrete monstrosity and I hate it. Unfortunately, it costs a lot to reroof…

Gas SafetyCheck & Electrical Installation Report When Purchasing Property
Dear All, The HBR stipulates Gas Safety Check to the boiler, heating and water heating system as they've not been serviced or maintained and installation appears unconventional. The electricity consumer board is old but upgraded with cartridges and as it has limited safety protection a new consumer unit should be installed…

Just want to move stuff that's stored in the garage into the loft (eg boxes of books, paperwork, etc). The insulation hasn't…

Is there a minimum property walkway / access size?
Hi all, I've just recently bought a small semi detached house to renovate in the Cardiff outskirts, and the semi-detached side is where the only doors to the property are located, and the walkway to get to these doors is EXTREMELY narrow between the house itself and the neighbour's field. I was wondering is there a minimum…

Fused Spur Timeswitch - Pulsacoil
My parents just picked up the keys to their flat. It has a PulsaCoil A-Class system installed (no economy 7) and a separate fused spur timeswitch installed. I have 2 banks of GU10 led's in my kitchen, but the light switches aren't in the places they should be. I want to move the switch without rewiring if possible. I know about ikea and philips smart lights, but is there any solution to make the switch 'smart' and relay it with a new switch? Any I've found are US based only.
