Buying from Germany
Hi - Looking to refurbish my bathrooms and found that sanitary ware and Showers etc are over 50% cheaper on German websites than in the UK. Has anyone bought anything from either reuter-shop.com or megabad.com or have any views on pros/cons buying from abroad? Just as an example, Villeroy & Boch Subway 2.0 washbasin white…

Accenta G3 Alarm - No Mains Power?
I appear to have lost mains power to the alarm, which set the alarm off at 3 this morning via the internal battery, which I have now disconnected to stop the damn thing. Has anyone any idea what can cause this / or test it to find the fault Thanks

Thermostat
My boiler has a clock type control for setting the hours it heats water and/or the radiators. It also has a temperature control (1-6). In the hall is a salus thermostat which has times and temperatures. It is possible to have different settings for weekdays and weekends. Each radiator has a thermostatic valve. Which of…

How to fix plasterboard hole
Hello, We had to cut a 3x3'' (7x7cm) hole to a plasterboard to check something behind it. I've saved the plasterboard piece we cut out. What's the best way to fix it back in? There is nothing behind it to hold the loose pieces - could I stick it with silicone all around and then a filler that I sand and paint over? Would…

garden arches tailor made mild steel?
Hi all. I need to span with some kind of metal arch the gap between two walls about 2 meters in the air. The walls are both robust. The span is 3 of 3.5 meters and 1 of 4.9 meters (the latter crossing the span at 45 degrees thus longer. I had thought of three mild steel rods joined with triangles every 60 cms. The rods…

Is the Green Deal dead?
I thought all the funding had been stopped last year. If so, why are we still getting daily calls about it? These are recorded messages saying "the national data base shows you have not yet had your green deal assessment......" 3 times I have clicked to be put through to a real person and requested politely that they stop…

Hotpoint WMFUG742 F06 fault nightmare
We have had the above model for around 8 months. It replaced a similar hotpoint model which was faulty after 1 month! We have been getting an F06 error intermittently and sometimes the cycle won't start at all, after the door lock has clicked several times. Hotpoint have been out 6 (SIX) times and replaced the door lock,…

Door flaps...wind and rain blocker
Hi - going to try to explain what I'm looking for. I have a conservatory with wooden doors. In summer everything is fine. In winter the doors swell and seem too big to close. I'm going to sand them down so they easily close and open. What I need is some kind of flap that would be on the edge of the door that would overlap…

Where's the water coming from? (UPVC windows)
Hi, We have triple glazing in our house, which was installed before we moved in, however, it's still covered under the installer's warranty. That said their after-sales service isn't brilliant. A couple of months ago, we noticed water pooling on the internal sill, and with the installers not being able to make it up for a…

Steam ovens any good?
Sorry all, I suspect this isn't really the right board for my question but I wasn't sure where to put it! Does anyone have a steam oven? We are hoping to have our kitchen refurbished this year and I'm trying to decide between Neff or Bosch (I think those are the best brands, but I'm open to other suggestions!) and whether…

Moving gas meter into recess
Dear all, We are building a small tiny bathroom under the stairs and the gas meter is a bit in the way of the toilet bowl. Our builder suggested, to remove a few bricks from the wall and get the meter a bit into the recess maybe half of it enough for the reading to be visible. The inlet pipe to the meter is a flexible…

Sarnafil v classicbond rubber roof
I am currently having a flat roof extension built on the back of my house (roof trusses on already) and my architect specified Sarnafil roof material which has a 15 year guarantee and as far as I can tell by the sample piece of rubber looks good quality. My builder has suggested Classicbond instead as it has a 20year…

Best cloth to wipe condensation off windows
I get a lot of condensation on my Windows and like to wipe them dry every morning. Does anybody know which cloth is best for getting rid of the water. I have tried many cloths, some leave bits of cloth on the window, microfibre cloths don't soak up the water. I have tried the Karcher window cleaner but it is too big for my…

Futon or mattress?
Hey all, I am looking to get a new mattress for my granny who is suffering from allergy. My friend suggested to buy a futon as it's made by using natural fibers and so that it's good for such patients. Is it so? He had bought a futon for his father from surplus furniture and mattress showroom Canada last year. If anybody…

Lockable outside air vent cover
Odd request. My house has a 120mm diameter air vent to let air in for the fire and boiler. It has the circular tube and two circular grills on either end. I need to make the outside grill removable but lockable, so in an emergency the grill can be unlocked and pulled off. I'm guessing a product like this doesn't exist, so…
