Pipe freezing kit - anyone used one?
I need to change a tap washer (hot) except there is no isolating valve under the sink and the gate valve near the hot water tank has seized. So without wanting to drain the cold water tanks in the loft, has anyone used a pipe freezing kit? If so are they any good? Cheers

Toilet flush honking like a goose!
Built in cistern in bathroom, with a ball valve. It honks like a goose when flush is activated, but not every time. Does it need replacing? Maybe a newer, vacuum type?

Who should cheque be paid to ?
We've just had some work done on a new flat for my mother-in-law which is been done by a reputable builder that is a limited company. They also do quite a bit of work for a large housing association in the area I live. Work has been done to a very good standard and short space of time. I've asked for an invoice for the…

Bedroom furniture - 'real wood' or cheaper option?
Right now we have zero furniture for our bedroom. I like oak furniture & light-oak to be specific, not that painted stuff. So we went looking at a local oak store & saw some real nice stuff. It can be afforded but regardless i have taken out a credit card offering 0% on purchases for 19 months & i'm tight enough to not go…

Do I need a professional to install a wireless burglar alarm?
I'm always anxious about burglars but I live in a rented house so I was thinking of getting a wireless alarm, so that I could take it with me if I move house. I would be happy enough if it was just an alarm box and a panic button, rather than all the sensors etc because it all seems very complicated. I got a quote for…

'wet' underfloor heating systems
I am due to have a tiled floor in my newly built extension and as we don't wear shoes in the house wanted an electric ufh system installed. They have give us a really good quote, however they just seem to have no foot-print on the internet. They have company headed…

How to measure a screw
Quite new to all this so this is probably quite a dumb question.. I have to put up a little bracket to hold a small three step stepladder. It's going in a masonry wall. I did it once before using screws that were about 2cm long and I I think they were too short, the thing just came off the wall after a while. So I'm going…
