Roofer... Checking Tradesman out.

Options
Local Roofer, an unusual name for a firm. Google brings up a website for them, contact number (Mobile & Landline).

I've searched both numbers, no returns.

I've searched Companies House, no returns.

They have give us a really good quote, however they just seem to have no foot-print on the internet. They have company headed paper etc, offer a good warranty on the roof but not insurance backed.

Roofer is using 18mm OSB, Anderson Torch On Felt inc Underlay...

Ideas?

maybe they are just starting out? Unless you are a ltd co, then you won't be reg with Co House.
id be worried if they didn't have any insurance though -even if just public liability....

Ask for a couple of references from recent customers that you can contact but to be honest nothing beats a personal recommendation from someone you know and trust.

A lot of small firms do not have much of a web presence as they don't need it. The good ones get all the work they need by word of mouth.

One word of advice. Andersons used to be one of the top players in the manufacture of built-up roofing felt but they got taken over by a company called Icopal. There are a multitude of different quality felts within the range so you may want to clarify exactly which felts they are offering in the quote. Icopal offer a 20 year insurance backed guarantee on the top of the range felts but only if it is installed by one of their approved contractors.

I think Anderson Tec? was a word used.

I thought they could be starting out, but even most small firms have a Facebook page and some reviews/feedback.

To be fair, yes a lot of small businesses use social media, at the same time a lot still don't, I wouldn't knock them for not having much of a web presence, maybe they're busy enough they don't need to.
I'd just ask them to provide you with some reference details that you can contact and get opinions of them from.

I wouldn't be worried about a lack of web presence, I'm self employed and have zero web presence also do not advertise (apart from the sign writing on the van) as I am busy enough.

Not Ltd so you couldn't trace me through Co House either.

I'd ask for a few local references that you could follow up and maybe look at the quality of work.

How do they compare with your other quotes / estimates?

If it doesn't feel right to you move on, you'll only worry down the line.

    Hi,

Another quote. £50 more, will use marine ply over OSB. Will use 3 layers in lieu of 2.

Last question, Whats better. Anderson or Duratech?

Really happy with No2, no2 has reviews..
