Bathroom Downlight

Options
I have got a problem with a downlight in the bathroom. I assume the transformer has gone because the bulb still works.

It looks quite easy to replace the downlight with this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/MiniSun-Bathroom-Polished-Ceiling-Downlight/dp/B00KBSAGN2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418968815&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+sun+ip65+downlight

It costs less than the transformer!

Is it ok to do this or have I missed something?

There is no bulb included, so you'll have a buy one as the existing bulbs won't work with it
You need to check that the cut out (hole) size is the same or else it won't stay in the ceiling

It's not clear if the fitting needs to be earthed - the lights you have a the moment do not need an earth, but as this is a mains fitting, it could do. You may or may not have an earth wire at the old light

If you are in a flat and there is another flat above your bathroom, you should not fit this, as it's not fire rated (ie designed so to stop a fire spreading from your flat to the the one above via the hole in the ceiling

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes I have some GU10's so no problem with the bulbs.

I have checked the hole size and I might have to extend it a little but that's no problem.

From what I can see these do not have an earth as there are only two wires going to the terminal box.

I don't live in a flat but this answer to one question intrigued me

'Having just fitted mine I can confirm that it does not get at all hot and does not have a transformer.
I did as a precaution, put a Persil washing "Bio Capsules" container over the light fitting in the loft. I cut a vent slot in the top and at the top of the two sides. I figured it would stop the insulation getting in the fitting and onto the glass as well as stopping it.'

Most people don't really understand the reason for fire rated fittings - hence the persil container - like THAT's going to stop a fire spreading!!
