Toilet flush honking like a goose!

Built in cistern in bathroom, with a ball valve. It honks like a goose when flush is activated, but not every time. Does it need replacing? Maybe a newer, vacuum type?

Tell your goose that it might find itself replacing the roast turkey on Christmas day if it doesn't stop honking at you.

Is it the flush that makes the noise or the refilling of the cistern? If it's the refilling it sounds like water hammer. The ball jumps up & down on the water surface turning the fill valve on & off. A modern plastic fill valve should cure it or, if you're a fan of Heath Robinson, fit paddle to the arm of the ball valve so the paddle is under water. This will damp the movement & stop the noise.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

It is the act of flushing that makes the noise, as the handle returns to its resting position.

Change the diaphragm in the ball valve.0
