Cutting down a door stop
Upgrading doors due to loft extension and existing frames are old moulded type with integrated doorstops. Any clever ideas to cut them down to fit new 44mm doors. Routing? Plunge saw? Or good old hammer and chisel? Is it better to try and cut off entirely and replace or just the 10mm or so I need off?

Any negative (mechanics) to not using a boiler/heating?
May be a silly Q to some, but as i don't know the answer & asking is free i'll go ahead... Another reason i ask is i learned that with the cars air con, many don't use it for fear of it running out (or whatever) but this has a detrimental effect on the system itself. I can't remember the ins & outs of what i was told but…

Iron?
Hey all I got given a £25 "online" VISA Gift Card for my birthday. Basically this is a giftcard type thing that you register online and it gives you a VISA number, which you can use to buy things online. Here's the thing - shopping online isn't like a shop. You can't pay £25 on the giftcard and make up the rest on a credit…

Bay windows
Our front room is quite small, the only way we could conceivably extend it would be to go straight out to the windows edge, and make the front flat. If this were done would we need planning permission? The house is a semi detached.

New boiler or pcb?
I have a Potterton Suprima 60 boiler which according to the seller information forms the previous house owner completed, had replaced in 2005. That doesn't seem all that old for a boiler - or is it? It went wrong this morning, it wouldn't fire up but there was power to it and the fan was running. Looking on t'interweb I…

Warm Deck Dormer Roof - Is this correct?
Hi all, Got a question regarding the design and construction of a warm deck flat dormer roof. We had a loft extension, was supposed to be top spec, but the company has been utterly rubbish every step of the way in short! They didn't put insulation in the floors, they got the measurements completely wrong, velux windows…

Cracking Plaster - Structural Inspection needed?
Hi, 3 months ago I had a damp proof course fitted to terrace house. The walls have been left to dry out. The plaster on the wall separating the hall and the living room has cracked horizontally where the new plaster meets the old plaster. Free standing stove - hearth regulations
Hello All, Can anyone confirm whether there is a minimum distance required between the back of a free standing stove and the wall if I have a stone slab on the wall? I don't have a chimney place/hearth, so I'm planning a stone slab on the floor and another on the wall behind. I believe the requirement is 150mm at back and…
