Benchmarx - trade only?
There is a lot of discussion on here about Benchmarx. However I am confused? They say trade only. We are doing our own kitchen - not trade. Can we not use them?

Tradesman Invoice is higher than agreed with hidden charges?
Our boiler broke down and I got a company in to fix it. It needed a new pressure relief valve and a a pressure gauge the boiler is an (Ariston Clas HE condensing boiler) When I contacted this company I explained the boiler wasn't working and they sent someone to look at it within a couple of hours. The man looked at it and…

Replacing an internal door mortice latch
The mortice latch on my bathroom door has failed so I need to replace or repair it. A hairpin like spring is broken and another part i don't even know the name of (see photo). I got a replacement 3" mortice latch at Toolstation but perhaps I was being too optimistic expecting it to fit where the 65 year old one had been…

Why does my bathroom sink always 'gurgle'?
Hope someone can help. My bathroom sink seems to contantly 'gurgle ' every few seconds and its becoming really annoying! Doesn't appear to be a blockage anywhere as the water runs down perfectly ok. Any ideas why its doing this and where can I start looking to cure it? F

Radiator question
Silly questions alert:o Are all double panel rads equal. We're replacing our ancient kitchen one and don't want to buy as cheap as possible if it will be carp. So far quickly looked at screwix and wickes. Bathroom rad. Again we're replacing that one. As the room is always so flaming cold should we just go for the biggest…

Oil and water coming up through our floor?!
Hi, There seem to be some experts here :) So I had hoped you might be able to help me shed some light on a problem we have with our groundfloor flat. We noticed a small black mark on the carpet during some heavy rain so we poked it a bit and discovered it to be an oily substance... we looked up, not coming from the…

Decorating in January.....
Our lounge and dining room are the only two rooms I haven't redecorated since we bought our house. They sorely need doing. It's looking like I'll have a break in work in January, which would give me a window of a few weeks to blitz them. Question for the experts - is decorating during cold months OK? I usually have the…

Whoops, I've ordered the wrong oven...
Hi guys, Just over a month ago I ordered a Hotpoint oven from Currys online in preparation for our new kitchen being fitted this week. When the kitchen fitters came to install the oven yesterday they noticed that it wouldn't fit because I've ordered a 'built-in' oven rather than a 'built-under' version... I've called…

Espresso Maker - Still tastes 'new'
I've got a Morphy Richards Elipta Espresso Maker but despite running water through it several times it still has that horrible new kettle taste. Its not just me who has noticed it and I've tried bottled and tap water but it makes no difference. Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the 'new' taste? Thanks

Would YOU buy a bathroom suite online ?
We have recently moved and wish to change the existing bathroom suite (peach colour) to a simple white suite. We don't want anything fancy, just a functional suite. My wife thinks we should buy online, but I'm not too sure. It's OK buying a jersey, or maybe a radio, but a bathroom suite is pretty big, if anything goes…

Double Glazing - Durham
I am looking to get 9 windows replaced in my home with new double glazing. The existing frames were fitted by the Council a long time ago and have been poorly fitted. Therefore, there may also be some brick work. Can anyone give me an indication of the price range I should expect to be quoted and offer any recommendations…

Washing Machine Issues
I've got a Candy CNW136 washer dryer and the other day it didn't drain the water out. I have taken the front drain plug out and emptied it manually, then tried a cycle to see if it would work from there. The door locks like normal but then nothing. I then took it to bits to check there was nothing stuck in the drain pipe…

Check-a-Trade Musings
I've used Check-a-Trade three times for different services. On each occasion I chose a local tradesman with high ratings. The first two were entirely satisfactory, and I was pleased to be given the feedback form to complete so that I could add my recommendation to those online. My most recent experience was not as good,…

No streetlights after midnight????!
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, around our estate every streetlight goes off now at midnight and doesnt come back on, is this legal/allowed? Surely it's a health hazard? I start work at 5am and it is pitch black for the first 500 metres I walk, and I mean total darkness (I use my phone as a pathetic light, walking…
