Hi
My son has bought a second hand single bed and I just wondered if there was any way to clean/disinfect the mattress before use.
It looks immaculate but you just never know .
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cleaning with a steam cleaner maybe its supposed to kill everything.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

We inherited a second hand bed in our last home - Mattress would have cost a fortune to replace as it was kingsize and about 2 foot thick! (big 4 poster). We just hoovered it thoroughly, both sides and edges and sprinkled it liberally with tea tree oil to kill any remaining nasties, but you could use any sort of strong disinfectant, even ant or lice powder if you wanted to be super thorough. Also liberal spraying with fabreze to get rid of any mustiness, and as said, use a mattress protector, or mattress topper.

In an episode of how clean is your house Kim used ordinary white bath soap on a flannel to clean the mattress wiped the soap off with a damp clean cloth and allowed the mattress to air until dry. He could always use a hair dryer for quickness
Hope this helps0 -
Hoover then steam clean it is then plus a topper. Many thanks all.0

Vacuum the mattress both sides and thoroughly disinfect any drawers. I'd steam clean it too (well i'd get hubby to do it cause the cleaner is too big and too awkward for me to handle).
I'd also vacuum the divan too. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
