Botched loft conversion
I'm in the middle of a loft conversion and we've had problems with the building firm at every stage. The plasterer has just finished and we've realised that the walls aren't straight, the windows are wonky and the floor isn't fixed properly. The MD of the firm admitted they'd done a rush job, but the action they are taking…

Baxi 105e - I need a new expansion vessel
Hi - been told that our "expansion vessel" needs replacing (don't understand the technicalites but its full of water? should have some air in it?). This doesn't appear to cause any major problems but the result is that the boiler over-pressures. In fact just seen it at 5bar (don't laugh - yep the needle was all the way…

Gahhh! I need a new shower!
We have a 9/10 year old Showerforce "shower panel" type of shower (installed by previous owners of the house) and a couple of weeks ago it started acting up. It turns on fine, but is very hard to turn off - you have to turn the control knob round and round and round, and slowly the flow of water slows down and eventually…

Problem with concrete floor
Hope this is the correct section to post this in, I nearly went for the flood damage. The property has concrete floors, however I have just spotted some thick black sludge, coming up from the garage floor. My first thought was waste from the downstairs toilet as it is roughly the otherside of the garage wall (internal…

In need of updating (flat on the market)
Hi Folks, Not sure if this is the right section, but I'll give it a go anyway. Last year we put our Bristol city centre 2 bed garden flat on the market, after months of trying (and one offer which fell through) we eventually gave up with the idea of doing a bit of work to the place so it was more appealing (some of the…

How do I free stuck tap?

They are the mixer kind where the two taps are at either end of the sink and the water comes ou of the centre. All the gubbins are underneath the sink. The problem is pretty straightforward, the tap leaks and needs a…
