Honeywell Wireless Thermostat

I have just had a lovely new Honeywell WirelessThermostat installed to control my combi and after contolling the heating manually (ie switching it on when we are cold) for years we are just about getting to grips with leaving it alone to do it's thing and trusting it.
We are very happy with it but I have one niggle that I would like answering just to put my mind at rest. On the boiler itself it has a control for how hot you want your hot water and another for how hot you want your heating. I have always had the control for the hot water around 3/4's on the dial and on the heating it has always been about 1/3 as if it was on higher when I controlled it manually I was constantly changing it up and down.
Now the stat has been installed the guy said to put the heating one to really high and let the stat contol everything. My mum however has the same one and her engineer told her to have it low or it would cost a fortune.
It is still early days for me to compare my gas bills so I thought I would ask you experienced lot on here for your advice.
If I have not explained myself clearly just let me know and I will try and post a pic.
Many Thanks
xx

The control on the boiler controls how hot the water is in the pipes. The hotter it is, the faster the rooms warm up, and so the shorter time the boiler will run for. With condensing boilers, you also want the water to come back a lot colder than it went out - the bigger the difference, the more likely the boiler is to run in condensing mode and achieve the most efficient running mode. I know on my fairly new Worcester boiler, there is an economy "e" marking on the boiler temp at about 4/5ths the way round the dial (towards hot).0

Many thanks for replying, so I am ok leaving it turned right up? That makes sense as it would get the house up to temperature quicker then turn the boiler off. One thing I forgot to add is that although my boiler is a conventional combi, my mums is a new condensing boiler. Do you suggest her temperature gauge on the boiler should be turned up high too as her installer told her the opposite.
Thanks once again

As I understand it, yes. Somebody qualified might be able to provide full information or a source to confirm this.0
