Hi all,
Well, we have some quotes and need to makes some decisions - does anyone have any words of wisdom? It is for our whole house.
Make: Mr Tomkinson Twist or Kingsmead Triple Twist Heather?
Weight: 40oz, 50oz or 60oz? £200 difference between 40oz & 50oz, then £500 difference between 50oz & 60oz? Must be all one weight as getting a discount for the whole roll.
Underlay (on floorboards): The quote includes 8mm foam which the fitter says is fine, but not sure if we need better?
....and I thought the colour would be the hardest decision to make!
Budget wise, we can afford the 60oz and better underlay - just don't want to waste any money. I have also heard that thicker underlay can cause problems with fittinf (not getting a good stretch) and ridging around the edges.
Thanks in advance for any words of advice!!

If you can afford the best option then i`d go for that, however, if you went for the cheapest carpet i would recommend you go for better quality underlay, you would get better carpet wear/under foot feel with good quality underlay. As for thicker underlay being a fitting problem, this is true if said underlay sat higher than the grippers, the carpet would not grip onto them but grippers could be bought up to level with for example, 2mm, 4mm ply ripped down to suit gripper size, obviously this would take more time and add to fitting costs, i`m sure you can get grippers in different thickness`s, may be wrong though? Would defo be thinking about good quality underlay though,as you mentioned you are straight onto floorboards, if these are not level, in time the boards will show through the carpet, it is expensive for good underlay but you will get better wear out your carpets and not get visible floorboard lines in time to come. Hope this helps a little....0

Thanks for your advice. I think I will tell the fitter my concerns and see what they say - I just didn't want them to try and sell me the rolls royce version when I don't actually need it. Sounds like, if I can get it, I am best to go for it though!0
