Please help - dispute over shower pump!
Hi, our shower pump broke about 10 weeks ago it was a 3.3 bar pump, which we were told was much more powerful than we needed just for a shower. We ordered a new one described as 'quiet' which was 1.3 bar, and we were told should be adequate. Plumber came and fitted it, we paid him £70. We discovered he had got hot and cold…

Stain sealant
We have had a leak and the bedroom ceiling has a large stain. It is completely dry now and we've given it a coat of white paint but it's still very visable. Should we seal it somehow? The mother-in-law has suggested gloss (we own Once Satinwood). Would I then need to lightly sand it after?

Leaking Velux window
There is a leak in the frame of one of our velux windows, It only happens occasionly - not every time it rains and is only in one edge. I have looked at it from inside and out and can not find any obvious fault. Any ideas of the cause and what type of tradesman is likely to be able to help?

Question about plumbing/shower
My daughter has moved into a house, the guest bathroom has a shower unit over the bath. It really is not very good. She doesnt want the expense of a new unit. So I did a little experiment, I got a jug and time how long it took to fill it from the shower (on the cold setting and again on the hottest setting) it took four…

New 'stainfree' carpet advice, please?
I'm wanting to replace our living room carpet (wool, cream, around 9 years old and looking dreadful now). Have a toddler who is into everything so thinking a 'stainfree' carpet might be a good idea. I saw some Regency Carefree carpets last night that could be the answer, but I've no experience of them and can't find any…

Exterior Door - Quality Differences?
Hi, We are in the process of sourcing a new exterior door. Leaking flat roof
This morning I spotted that we have a leak in the ceiling of a flat roof extension. Water had dripped on to the floor via the light fitting. There was a long thin damp patch on the ceiling itself (suspiciously the shape of a joist). The roof is felt and pitch with some stones scattered over it. It is approx. 16 years old.…

Costs of converting a roof
We have recently purchased a property and the extension is a two part, on half has a tiled roof and the other a plastic roof. With the current rain its leaking like no business, and is very cold. I was thinking about having the roof the same all across with two skylights to ensure its not too dark in the kitchen. That moss…

What glazing compound for dbl glazing in wooden door?
Hi, I bought a new exterior solid wood door with double glazed units in. The door came with the units 'installed dry'. Looks like the beading is just nailed over the edge of the glass. The glass simply says these units must be sealed with appropriate sillicon or glazing compound. Anyone recommend anything? The door…

Gas hob question- Yellow flame + rushing sound ??
Hi, We have a Rangemaster dual fuel cooker fuelled by LPG from 47kg cylinder. One of the gas rings when lit sometimes has yellow flames together with a rushing sort of sound. Lots of black residue on ring and smell of fumes. I guess it's something to do with the jet. I've tried cleaning it with no real difference. Are the…
