Stain sealant

We have had a leak and the bedroom ceiling has a large stain. It is completely dry now and we've given it a coat of white paint but it's still very visable.
Should we seal it somehow? The mother-in-law has suggested gloss (we own Once Satinwood). Would I then need to lightly sand it after?

use a solvent based undercoat , if you have any or get some stain sealer
any water based paints will just result in the stain coming thru again0 -
Sorry, we're novices... Solvent based undercoat? We have some wood primer, but I assume you mean something else again?0

Solvent based (oil based) the type you can't wash the brushes with just water
Or use Zinnser cover up.

Thanks John, so the satinwood will work then?0

I would not use the satinwood, just get some Zinsser cover up, its only about £8... Then emulsion your ceiling..
