What glazing compound for dbl glazing in wooden door?

Hi,
I bought a new exterior solid wood door with double glazed units in. The door came with the units 'installed dry'. Looks like the beading is just nailed over the edge of the glass. The glass simply says these units must be sealed with appropriate sillicon or glazing compound. Anyone recommend anything? The door supplier couldn't offer much help.
Someone has recommended EPDM glazing tape?
What do you do with that, just stick it round the edges, press the glass over and put the beading back on top?
Thanks

high modulus silicon is required as its high movement, affected by temperature changes,
low modulus is for bathrooms,
be carefull as its runny.you will need masking tape,
but its an excellent product,0 -
I reccomend Buytl tape link below.........
http://www.reddiseals.com/glazing-tapes/butyl-tape-sealant.html
You can also use Buytl putty which is available from most decorators merchants......
Make sure you seal all the rebates before fitting the glass with either a primer or the stain that your going to finish the door with.......
With the tape, start by pressing the tape into the top and bottom, then each side of the rebates. Then pull off backing tape/film , fit unit into rebate and make sure you fit packers (plastic or timber) to pack the space between the glass and the timber otherwise the door will drop out of shape from the weight of the unit.
Then put tape along the top and bottom on the glass and then the sides. Fit top bead, then bottom beads and spring in the side beads, pinning easch as you fit them.....0 -
Prefer Butyl glazing compound. Specially made for the job . when glass has been bedded using this, nail a glazing strip in place with a smear of this compound on the meeting face.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I was just planning on putting a clear varnish on the door, should i just put that on the rebates first, or does it need a particular primer/stain instead?
One other thing, you're saying i put tape on the rebate, fit the glass into it, then put more tape round the edges of the glass before i pin the beads over the top?
Thanks!0 -

Varnish is fine, make sure its dried thoroughly before glazing. With regards to the tape once you have put the glass in some people fit the tape on the timber beads and then press against the glass, pin them on and then cut off any excess tape with a sharp stanley knife. I prefer to put the tape on the glass, then push the beads on and pin. Its whatever your most comfortable doing.....
Remember to use packers to fill the space between the unit and timber. I always fit the tape in the rebate, leaving the film on the exposed side and then try the unit in "dry" so you can see what packers you need . Then take the unit out, peel off the film/protective and fit the unit in the rebates.. Be careful to place the unit correctly as the tape sticks like the proverbial sh1te to a blanket and you can't adjust the unit once its stuck down.........0
