Tiling query.
Is there anythng available to do away with the sharp corners that will eventually discolour and and become dirt traps when tiling a shower cubicle? I.E where the wall corners meet and where the tiles meet the top of the shower tray. Can you get any sort of quadrant or something with a curved profile that will do away with…

How messy is plastering?
We are repainting an entire upstairs one-bed conversion flat this weekend. Probably should have sorted this before but the ceiling part of the lounge bay window (.5m x 1.5m) needs replastering as it has a large hole in it. I was going to leave the bay window for a while but my OH is saying we should not repaint the flat…

Tiny beetle-like insects in new bathroom
We have just had our bathroom redone and now have an extractor fan and it is fully tiled white. We have inset halogen spots. We seem to have a huge family of tiny insects which have smooth shells like beetles but they are only around 1-2 mm long and half the width. I think that they then turn into a fly... Not sure if they…

Which white goods to buy for my family?
We have found out today that our insurers are going to pay out and provide us a cheque to buy a new washing machine, freezer (4 drawer) and tumble dryer. We are going to get approx £450 so we will top this up to get models with functions we want. However I would appreciate some advice from people who also use these…

Chair stripping? Strip and Dip?
We have a mottly collection of woodern chairs, in a variety of varnishs and or paints. I would like to strip them back and then varnish them all so that they match. I have looked on the internet and found a Strip and Dip place which charges £15 a chair. What I was wondering is, what condition are the chairs in after they…

Combi vs standard boiler?
I'm trying to compare quotes for a central heating upgrade to a condensing boiler. One engineer recommends a combi boiler and sealed system, another a standard boiler, open system. Which advice is most appropriate? The house has 10 rads, bathroom with shower, bath and sink, cloakroom with sink and a kitchen with sink. The…

Do I need an electrician or the electricity provider?
Hi all I'm still in the process of getting an electrician in for quotes on a rewire! The first sparky had a look and is due to get back to me with a quote. He did look at my meters near the front door (Im already aware that I need a new consumer unit/fuse box). The actual wood that holds the electricity meter and fuse box…

Hang a gate from concrete fence posts
Hi, the fence panels in my garden are slotted into concrete posts and there is a smaller gap where a gate should be but isn't. I can't seem to find a kit to hang a gate from these concrete posts, the posts have 15mm diameter holes in 2 places where it should be possible to put hinges. Other than drilling the posts/bolting…

Workmen have disappeared
I found people to do some decorating for me on Myworkman. They have done less than half of the job agreed and I have paid them 70% already. They left yesterday afternoon and said that they were going to buy more materials - they have not returned since and are not answering their phone. Is there anything that I can do? Do…

Brand new showerhead rattles? Normal?
I've just bought a bath mixer tap with shower attachment. The multi function showerhead has a dial for different settings. On unpacking it I found that he showerhead rattles inside when you shake it, no matter what setting it's on. It was very well packaged and I don't think it's damaged in transit. I think it might be a…

Sealing edge of worktops
We're having a new kitchen and have chosen black granite worktops. However, we've not gone for the matching upstands because that takes us well over our budget. Has anyone got any ideas on how to seal the gap between the worktop and the wall? We are going for a contemporary look with a neat, clean finish.

Bathroom paint - views/advice required
Hello B&Q have 15% off all coloured emulsion from today until next Thursday. I'm redoing my bathroom in October and have decided to take advantage of the discount and buy my paint now. Understairs DIY
Morning This weekend we are relocating our desk to under the stairs to make way for a nursery in the spare room. I'd like to extend the desk using a piece of working top which will rest on a filing cabinet but I'm not sure how to secure it at the other end as this will be against the slope of the stairs. Does anybody have…

Any plumbers?? estimate for drains.
I've been digging up the ground floor of my house to put in a DPC and new concrete floor - and the drain (110mm clay one) that runs through the house is in bad nick in a few places (where I've drilled a hole in it lol!!) How much will it cost to fit a few new sections (totalling no more than 2.5 - 3 metres) of drains,…
