Sealing edge of worktops

We're having a new kitchen and have chosen black granite worktops. However, we've not gone for the matching upstands because that takes us well over our budget.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to seal the gap between the worktop and the wall? We are going for a contemporary look with a neat, clean finish.

clear or black silicone should work ok. just make sure you do it properly and you won't even see it and should blend in anyway0
