Which radiator and combi boiler?
Hi all, Having been really discouraged by the local plumbers who have not been willing to entertain conversation about which brand of radiator and boiler they are quoting to fit, I have decided to do a lot of the purchasing and work myself. (Dont worry, obviously not doing the boiler myself!) What I have found are loads of…

Touching up chips in old paintwork
Has anyone any suggestions as to how I could touch up chips in old paintwork? Specifically those in skirting boards, doorframes etc. These were last painted by the previous owners about five years ago. The paint WAS white but is now slightly "yellowed" - not noticably, but new white paint stands out somewhat. You'll gather…

Builders - I-Beam (RSJ?) cost ?
Hi, My mum had a kitchen refit done years ago which included an unnecessary I-Beam being fitted - neither the plans nor the building inspector said it was required. I also think she may have been stung for the cost of it too. Could any builders give an estimated cost for a 7mm * 150mm * 3000 mm (thickness, height, length)…

paint advice for bedside tables
We have a couple of cheap bedside tables which are unfinished pine. I'd like to paint them but I'm not sure what sort of paint to use. Gloss is the obvious choice but I don't really want a shiney finish. I've looked at Dulux Satinwood, but I'm not sure how hard wearing it is. ie. will we get glass marks, etc on it. Would…

Buyin a kitchen
We've narrowed the choice down to 2 at the moment. Ikea would cost us about £1100 and Hygena about £1800 - the Hygena planning looks like it would be better fitting and better looking, but there's that £700 difference! I'll do most of the fitting and building myself, but will get a carpenter in to finish off the bits I'm…

Please help - do we need earth bonding?
My father-in law, who is a retired (and a bit 'rusty') electrician, has told us that we should get our new bathroom and en-suite earth-bonded. We have just had the en-suite built from scratch, but the bathroom suite will be just a replacement of the existing one. I asked the builder (who is not a certified electrician)…

upgrading Shower
My old shower has got worse recently, and I bought a new one. A couple of questionsabout installation: 1) the new shower needs a thicker cable, so can I run another length of the same rated cable in parallel with the original? Instead of just using one thick cable? 2)If the low pressure indicator on the new shower comes…
