Gel fires - any experience?

Moneysavers & Martin

Thanks for your excellent work on the site – I’ve been recommending it to colleagues, friends, parents etc etc

I wonder if you know anything about the new gel fires that are new-ish to the market? They are ideal in places where there is no flue as an alternative to electric fires and create heat by burning smokeless, odourless gel.

I’m thinking of buying one and wonder if they work out to be economical? They’re relatively good value to buy but the gel seems to work out at £3-4 per litre with a litre lasting approx 2-3 hours only.

I was thinking about having one in my living room to save putting the central heating on to heat the whole house but they may not be that cost-effective considering the cost of the gel.

If readers or Martin have any info I’d appreciate it.
