paint advice for bedside tables

We have a couple of cheap bedside tables which are unfinished pine. I'd like to paint them but I'm not sure what sort of paint to use.
Gloss is the obvious choice but I don't really want a shiney finish.
I've looked at Dulux Satinwood, but I'm not sure how hard wearing it is. ie. will we get glass marks, etc on it. Would it be OK?
I assume that I should stick to solvent based paints only for this.
Any help and advice greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I have used satinwood on furniture before and it's fine..(use the matt) but the best paint I have found to use is crown kitchen cupboard makeover paint.. it's non chip.. great colours and works on any wood... good luck.0
