help! confused about damp & timber report issues!
We had a full homebuyers survey done on a 1920s semi we had an offer accepted on. The offer was 195k. The report said it valued the property at 193k because it detected issues with damp and timbers that needed further investigation, but if either a report was produced to say it was all ok, or a certificate produced to show…

Thoughts on Hertfordshire villages
I have previously asked for posters' opinions on St Albans and received lots of helpful replies. My wife and I are now considering some of the villages around St Albans and Harpenden - Markyate, Wheathampstead, Berkamsted etc. I'd be interested in any thoughts on those places. Our budget is up to £600k and we would need 4…

Estate Agent, This sound right?
Just called an estate agent about a property on their files that I fancied having a veiwing of, told them which one it was and they said that the place has had an offer on it. Seemed to get no further than that which I thought kind of strange, all she would say was that it was a 'pretty solid offer'. Would that be reason…

capital gains tax on sale of house
If a house is inherited where do the Tax office take the value of the house. Is it from the value at probate or later on when the house is registered at the land registry. In our case the value is much higher at probate. How will it effect any capital gains tax if we sell the house in the future. Thanks

Are we completely mad?
 Hi all, VVV.confused and would like honest opinions please. We bought our house at the peak May 07 :o the house is lovely, but the road is a nightmare for parking, stroppy neighbours and chavvy kids. Decided enough was enough at Xmas, been on the market since Jan for £162500 (paid £186995) so seemed reasonable…

Property Factor Problems
I live in Glasgow and I am having multiple problems with GHA Management Ltd who factor the property in which I own a flat (one of three, one other is privately owned, one other owned by GHA). Main problem -> I have been billed £500 for work which has not, to my knowledge, been carried out. I have repeatedly asked for…

Shared Ownership and the mechanics of aquring additional equity:
Question: I purchased 40% of the equity on a shared ownership basis for a two bedroom flat back in September of 2007. At the time the new build had a market value of £325,000. Rather luckily I acquired a tracker mortgage with the Woolwich + 0.58% base rate (with no collar). I also didn’t need to pay a deposit or any fees…

Estate agent fees and shared ownership help
We put our house on the market with our HA just over 2 weeks ago, they have one month in which to sell and then we can put it on the open market. However, our particular HA are renowned for never getting any buyers, so we figured the month is just dead time and we would put it on the open market at the same time with the…
